Description

Soak up the magic of the McKenzie's fern forest in a unique, locally-built teeny tiny A-frame cabin with an accompanying open-air kitchen and outdoor forest shower. This nature-centered rental offers a unique stay that is part modern glamping, part cabin retreat, and part a portal to simpler times. The space is designed to be an outdoors-centered experience with a heavy dose of coziness and romance. Come nestle down in the calm and quiet of the forest. Only 45 minutes from Hoodoo Ski Area. The space The Fern Cabin & Kitchen is an indoor-outdoor sister space adjacent to The McKenzie House, a premium riverfront rental: airbnb.com/h/atthemckenziehouse The property is just around the corner from the Obsidian Grill and McKenzie General Store, and a half-mile walk from Loloma Lodge. The 120 sq. ft micro cabin has a queen bed, kitchenette and RV-style toilet room. Guests will enjoy private access to a hot outdoor forest shower, a fire pit, and the charming Fern Kitchen, an open-air cooking and dining space built within a repurposed hundred-year old house. The kitchen includes a gas pizza oven, Argentinian style grilling hearth, a 15-foot redwood slab dining table, cooler and ice freezer, an old-timey bar and lounge area, cookware, and more. There is heating and AC in the cabin as well as a small toilet room and a kitchenette with sink, mini fridge and a bit of counter space. It is enough to keep you comfortable, dry and cozy, in the trees but out of the rain. Additionally, we converted the long-abandoned original homestead house on the property into a covered, open-air kitchen, dining and lounge space. The Fern Kitchen is meant to function like an extended living room, dining room and kitchen, thereby allowing the tiny cabin its place as a kind of detached bedroom suite. The kitchen is designed to emphasize the simple fun of outdoor cooking. It is stocked with an assortment of live fire cooking equipment, dishware, cookware, heaters, electric cooktop, microwave, toaster, and more. This one-of-a-kind space offers a unique way to relax in nature with some cozy protection from the elements. Similarly, there is no shower in the cabin. Instead, there is the unique opportunity to head outside and bathe amongst the towering evergreens and the smell of the fern and fir forest. If you've never enjoyed a hot shower out in nature, get excited. There is no TV, but lots of trees. This is a space for those looking to slow down and connect with nature's beauty while enjoying a bit of cozy comfort and charm. Guest access The Fern Cabin and Kitchen are located within a quarter acre portion of a 2.5 acre property that is home to The McKenzie House. The two separate rental spaces are designed to function both as entirely private secluded spaces or as one combined sprawling rental. The Fern Cabin area is set within the forest toward the front end of the property and enclosed by log walls and trees. If rented separately, you will have plenty of privacy and access to this entire quarter acre, but not the rest of the property. There is no river access included. If you are part of a large group, consider renting both the Fern Cabin & Kitchen as well as The McKenzie House for the ultimate McKenzie retreat. The two spaces can be connected via a short walk along the a forest trail or driveway. Other things to note Due to space and location, pets are allowed but only according to a few key rules. Pets must be kept within the cabin/kitchen area so they do not run onto neighboring properties. Additionally, pets are not allowed on the bed in the cabin. Therefore, guests must bring their own bedding to allow pets to sleep on the small bit of floor space in the cabin. We charge a $50 pet fee for 1 or 2 small to medium-sized dogs. Campfires and wood cooking fires are limited during fire season, which is typically mid-June through mid-October.
