Description

Promotions and events can be found on our website. TerraStay Farm offers sunrise-facing cottages in Saxapahaw within walking distance of the Haw River and all of Saxpahaw. The cottage is furnished with a queen bed with comfy linens (680-800 thread count), handmade furnishings, hickory hardwoods, a table for 4, a loveseat, coffee table, and a kitchenette. French press & fresh coffee is provided. We are permitted up to four guests. There are up to 2 rollaway twins available upon request, FCFS. The space Disconnect, recharge and enjoy our farm along with all Saxapahaw has to offer! We are a working farm. We have a gravel drive, are building soil, composting, and there will always be at least one project in the works. We generally don't have too much racket going on but do expect to hear the rooster, some power tools, and the occasional herding call throughout the day. That said you might visit us on a paperwork or delivery day and see virtually no work happening outside at all. The cabins are along our sheep pasture and the sheep may visit you. Our chickens are free-range during the day and you'll see them wandering about. We are farming organically so expect to see insects. The cabins themselves are cleaned frequently but they are not sprayed except for the very rare problem. (hint - don't leave your chocolate or bacon on the counter). If you plan on hiking around consider bringing some boots or hiking shoes because there are fire ants on the property and an affectionate sheep can hurt some toes. The cabins are cleaned and steam sanitized between each guest. The linens are very comfortable and high thread count. The floors are hickory, we appreciate guests who remove their shoes. There is a little kitchenette and table for 4. There is no wifi or TV but there are workarounds if you need them. Please reach out if this is the case. The cabins are a great space to relax, rock on the porch, and truly absorb the farm's peaceful atmosphere. Guest access Saxapahaw: Enjoy meals at the Saxapahaw General Store or buy local produce to prepare your own meals. Purchase sustainably raised meats from us and/or charcuterie from Left Bank Butchery. Visit local farms, canoe, kayak or hike along the Haw River, and attend shows at the Haw River Ballroom. Bike and Hike trails and watch the sunset over the Haw River while enjoying a cold beverage on the porch of the Eddy or Cup 22. Sample beer at the Haw River Farmhouse Ales. Farm Access: You are welcome to walk out to the sheep and chickens and along our drive, but please do not enter tunnels or grow areas without an escort. We offer complimentary tours to our guests by request and we're happy to show you these areas. Driving and Parking: Please stick to the gravel. The grass is a super important part of our feed program so limiting the damage is crucial. Thank you!! Other things to note Please don't drive on the grass, it's an important component of our feed program. We are a farm - please be aware there are electric fences and other items deemed potentially dangerous. Be aware and carry a flashlight at night. *Don't cross fields in the dark - stick to paths and the driveway to avoid hazards. We regularly move fences and project materials. There is poop here. It's not a mess, but we do have grazing animals. Boots are great to bring along :) *Electric fences hurt ....but they are not going to injure you. One guest insisted I include this in the description because city folk won't know this. I feel like most do, but for clarity, if touched they may shock you in a painful and weird-tingly way. It's not pleasant. How might you get shocked? Touching a live fence, urinating on one, or touching a conductive object to a live wire. Yes, a blade of grass is conductive. Some fences hurt, some tickle, some are off - but NONE of ours are going to cause injury. The amps are very low and the fence is pulsing so you will jerk back abruptly. Kids - same thing. Warn them, but if they do it anyhow odds are pretty good they'll not touch it twice. :) Mostly, if you are down to earth. you should have a very good time here. If you hate bugs, dirt, attention-seeking animals, or gravel driveways - we're probably not the right spot for you .... no matter how close the wedding is :)
