The space LOCATION Birdsong is located in the hill district of Coorg, popularly known as Kodagu, set amidst a 500-acre coffee plantation. It is about 20 mins west of Kushalnagar, just off the Mysore - Madikeri Highway. STORY Birdsong's story began on a 500-acre coffee plantation, purchased from an Englishman in the 1800s. Passed down through generations, the estate became a haven for the current owner. Childhood memories were steeped in the rhythm of harvest season, picking coffee beans alongside family. Days ended with birdsong fading into starry nights, and sleep came easy under the vast sky. Generations later, seeking respite from the pandemic, the family returned to this peaceful place. The restorative power of the land was undeniable. Inspired, they decided to share this haven with others. Nestled in the emerald hills, Birdsong was born, a quiet melody in tune with nature's rhythms. Designed to blur the lines between indoors and out, the villa's transparent walls invite the surrounding beauty in. Its minimalist design allows nature to be the star. Days are filled with the colors of the Kodagu wilderness, while moonlit nights create a serene, calming atmosphere. Common Lounge A skylit foyer opens into an expansive, open-plan living area wrapped by sliding glass walls. Featuring modern furnishings, the space accommodates seamless movement around activities and dining areas, inviting easy small-group interactions. Plunge Pool and Deck The pool is encased by greenscapes looking into the coffee plants and pepper vines on two sides and an elongated deck on the third. With comfortable garden furniture, this is perfect for a poolside sundowner. Bedrooms The elongated rooms flank the lounge, compelling you to stay with the enchanting views of the hills through tall windows and corner glass walls. Sink into the cozy bed and click a button to open the skylight for a starry night view. A private verandah features wire chairs for furthering your nature therapy. Guest access Birdsong and its sister property, Earthsong are separate units. You do not have access to Earthsong (3-Bedroom Unit), unless that is booked separately. Other things to note We are delighted to welcome your furry companions. Sharing a few guidelines to help make their stay comfortable. Do carry your own pet bedding, blankets or throws, as we do not provide doggie beds. Do not forget their towels, water bowls, treats, and favorite toys to help them feel at home. Pets are not permitted to climb onto or sleep on beds, sofas, or other furniture. This helps us maintain a clean and comfortable space for all guests. Please clean up after your pets, both inside the villa (in case of accidents) and on the villa grounds. Please wipe off muddy paws and ensure they are sufficiently dry before they enter the villa after their walk. REFUNDABLE SECURITY DEPOSIT Please note that a refundable security deposit of INR 15,000 will be collected immediately after booking confirmation. This can be paid via NEFT or UPI. The security deposit will be returned within 5 working days after checkout, minus any claims for damages, if applicable. Entry to the property will not be permitted unless the Security Deposit is paid. SIGNED BOOKING CONTRACT A booking contract form will be sent to you. Please fill-it, sign-it and send it back to us along with soft copies of photo IDs of all guests. INCLUDED SERVICES Breakfast is included in the rate. For other meals (chargeable) we have The Blue Door Cafe located within our estate (a serene 5-min walk from the villa) operated by an independent entity. Breakfast is prepared by the Cafe and served by our team at the villa. You can order off the Cafe's a la carte menu, or from a choice of recommended restaurants located nearby, which our team would be happy to pick up and serve to you at your villa. Any meals other than breakfast are charged as per the restaurant menu. Payment to be settled directly. Pet charges of INR 1900 plus tax per pet per night will collected directly after the booking. - Birdsong (this listing) and its sister property, Earthsong (3 rooms) are separate units. Booking one does not permit access to the other, unless both are booked together. - Keep your mosquito screens on all the time to avoid critters. For safety, please close all windows and doors when leaving the house. - During tours and treks inside the plantation, always be accompanied by villa staff. - External perimeter lighting is kept switched on through the night to deter the movement of elephants in close proximity to the villa. - Be sure to carry a torch and walk to and from the restaurant at night in groups - Elderly guests and children must always be supervised, as the pools are unprotected. - Indoor spaces are non-smoking. If you wish to smoke outdoors, please use the ashtray provided. Coorg faces an acute water shortage. - Guests are requested to use water prudently during their stay. - Like other hill stations, electricity quality is erratic in Coorg. The villa has 100% power backup by genset in case of power cuts. - The coffee harvesting and processing season in Coorg is typically in January and February. The coffee pulp, a byproduct of the processing, is composted to produce organic fertilizer for the plantation. You may experience plantation realities like fertilizer scents, insects, etc during the processing season and monsoons. - Leeches abound in Coorg from March till October. While on a trek, carry salt or Volini, to help them unlatch. Do check your clothes and shoes after treks and trails.
