The area We have so many great places to explore whatever month. We have listed some of our favourites here. If you have any questions, we are always happy to help. Winchelsea Beach is a semi rural seaside village. The beach itself faces Rye Bay, the estuary of the River Rother. At high tide it is composed of shingle, which is normal on this stretch of coastline; whilst at low tide an expanse of mud and sand is revealed. Many species of birds frequent the sands and the surrounding marshland of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve. Winchelsea is a small toown and a short walk from the caravan. The town is worth a visit for its mix of notable buildings and St Thomas Church. The current town, which was founded in 1288, replaced an earlier town of the same name, known as Old Winchelsea, that was lost to costal erosion in the late medieval period. Winchelsea is part of the civil parish of Icklesham. Rye Nature Reserve is coastal nature area with 5 birdwatching hides and miles of footpaths to explore. Habitats include saltmarsh, shingle, saline lagoons, grazing marsh and reed bed. Visit at any time of year to see a range of rare birds, plants and other animals. The amazing Discovery Centre is open 10-4pm every day for learning, shopping and eating. Rye is the nearest town to our caravan. You can find the town two miles from the sea at the confluence of three rivers: the Rother, The Tilligham and The Bride. As an important member of the mediaeval Cinque Ports confederation there is a rich history embedded into the town. There is so much to do in Rye with its great shops ( including our own Sailors 97 High Street ) pubs, cafes, restaurants, museums and even its own cinema. Rye is also famous for its Christmas Festival, Bonfire Night, Scallop Week, Jazz Festival and its Arts. Hastings County Park is a fabulous nature reserve with stunning coastal scenery situated within the High Weald Area National Landscape. You can explore ancient woodland glens with their unique biodiversity and rugged coastal paths. Conservation grazing and sustainable management helps make this one of the most important nature reserves in the country. Hastings Old Town is one of our favourite local seaside towns. A muddle of houses, ancient churches, shops and a multitude of pubs sit tucked between two cliffs a fifteen-minute walk east of Hastings main town.Slightly worn in places, Hastings Old Town has a wealth of character and a welcoming community feel. It’s one of five Cinque Port towns in the UK. St Leonards-on-Sea (commonly known as St Leonards) is a town in the borough of Hastings. In the last 10 years this Town has become a must visit place for it’d cool shops, galleries and cafes. Guest access Full two bedroom caravan. Outside dining and bench. Other things to note We are always happy to recommend places to eat, drink and visit. Just ask.
