Description

The Grey Havens sits atop Scarce of Fat Ridge. My property encompasses 20 acres, mostly of state-classified forest. The Yellowwood State Forest surrounds the property on three sides. Yellowwood is expansive and trails from the house connect to forest roads, horse and hiking paths, including the Tecumseh Trail. Several lakes, parks and other forests are nearby. You are surrounded by artisans in and around Nashville. Simply put, this place is a gem for the outdoors in the Norman Uplands. The space The private room is furnished with a old murphy bed with stained glass windows. A shared kitchen is available for use and a private bathroom is available for guests. Guest access The house is quite the hybrid. It is a rustic cabin on the outside, hardwood frame and peg construction, and modern on the inside with modern appliances and hardwood floors. I keep a mix of modern and historic furniture as furnishings, but it is always a bit in flux. Also, I have only lived here for a few years, so I am continuing to impart my own personality on the place. As such, you may note somethings off kilter, cluttered, or in the case of the basement, unfinished. The below are a few very important notes for your stay: - Rooms – Your rental is specific to the first floor of the house, which includes the guest bedroom, the washroom attached to the kitchen (this one is private to you during your stay), and shared use of the kitchen, dining, and living areas. A loft above the kitchen is open with a TV (no signal). The basement can be used for laundry. The second floor is my private residence and should be left alone. - Cooking – This is one of my favorite activities. Please make yourself welcome and use the kitchen and refrigerator as you like. The refrigerator/freezer will have space for you, but please do not use my personal items or leave excessive supplies behind. I have a small beer/wine refrigerator. If you take anything from it, please replace or donate. My bar, including supplies, should remain off limits to guests. - Porches – Feel free to use both. The covered porch and porch swing are an excellent place to relax. The outside table can be used for meals, but will need occasional cleaning. The grill is small, but is functional. - Water – Supply is a buried cistern filled with city water from nearby Nashville. It holds 2,000 gallons, so please be mindful of use. Short showers are appreciated. - Septic – Typical of rural areas, waste is collected in a septic tank. Because of that, please DO NOT dispose of feminine hygiene products or other similar items in the toilets. - Electric – Fully wired through the house. Inclement weather will occasionally knock out the power for a few hours. - Laundry – A washer and dryer is present in the basement, but please only use sparingly if needed. - Cleaning supplies – Are primarily below the kitchen sink or in the room under the kitchen stairs. Please use as needed, but use sparingly. - Trash – Can is in the room under the kitchen stairs. Please separate recycling into adjacent bin. - Connectivity – It is rural Indiana. I have internet, but not satellite or cable available. ATT typically has a few bars of LTE signal; Verizon less. I tether my phone for wireless to my laptop and stream to the TV in the loft. Other things to note I have four cats that stay 100% indoors and should not be let out. I will try to keep them in the basement or upstairs during your stay. They have food and litter upstairs and and in the basement. Both are up on their vaccines. Please do not disturb them as best you can. I also have one dog (husky). If I am home during your stay, the dog will remain upstairs. If I am away for your stay, the dog will be with me. She is friendly and up on her vaccines.
