Bring your own portable EV charger for Level 2 charging capability with our NEMA 14-50/ 240v outlet. ———————————————————— From this bright and comfortable home above the southeastern shores of Clear Lake, take in spectacular views through its large windows and sliding glass doors. Gaze westward to enjoy an elevated perspective over its waters. Mount Konocti meets your gaze as it reflects over the vast beauty of the surroundings with you. The open living/dining/kitchen area allows full enjoyment of the views while spending time with fellow guests. There is a small HD tv in the living area. The home’s 2 bedrooms are at the other end of the hallway. Both bedrooms have queen size beds. A queen size fold out mattress and 2 twin size foam mattress pads are stored in the master bedroom’s walk-in closet available for additional sleeping options. A Dream on Me brand pack and play is also available here for any infant/toddler visitors. Bedrooms have blackout curtains. Living area has blinds/curtains but they are not blackout. In addition to the efficient heat pump central air conditioning and heating system, there are 2 electric fireplaces- one in the living area and another in the master bedroom. A small laundry area off the kitchen is available for guest use. A full bathroom is located off the hallway. The other full bathroom is accessed through the master bedroom, which also offers stunning views through a sliding glass door. Both sliding glass doors open onto the large west-facing, wrap-around deck that spans the length of the home. Here is where you may experience birds of all kinds soaring so close you can hear the air move through their feathers and make eye contact with curious families of deer as they go about their quiet grazing. We stay here when we need respite from life’s chaos. We are gradually making some upgrades and hope to do a little more as funds allow, but we find our retreat is charming and comfortable as is and ready to share with guests. We hope our guests will feel the same. * Please also read the “Other things to note” section before booking.* THE SURROUNDINGS: *We are not directly on the lakeshore, but just a short distance uphill, allowing the open and elevated perspective of lake and mountains in the photos*. Much of Clear Lake’s shore is bordered by private properties, but there is a small neighborhood lake access point enough for launching kayaks about a 10 minute walk away. There are a few areas around Clear Lake’s shores for public access to things like boat launches and beaches. Situated along the Pacific Flyway, a myriad of birds may delight you with their flights- elegantly gliding over the lake’s surface or, thanks to our elevated location- at eye level. As sunset nears, don’t miss golden hour at the Golden Egg. From its cozy nest, watch as the sky’s performance is just beginning. The golden wash retreats from the landscape and so often, saturated displays of the deepest reds, magentas, and oranges take stage- gradually giving way to the brightness of the stars… Able to tear yourself away from these views and explore? Driving, hiking, biking, kayaking, boating, hot springing, tasting local wines- are all options in discovering Clear Lake and its surroundings. We provide 2 single person kayaks for guest use upon request ***Note: Please make request upon booking to allow notice for our maintenance staff to pull kayaks from storage while they are on property prior to your stay. If you are making a last minute booking request and the property staff has already visited to clean after the previous guest, unfortunately we cannot guarantee they will be able to return to remove kayaks from storage for your stay. When the weather starts warming, there are also places to rent kayaks in town. Expect to need a vehicle for exploring areas around the lake, as there are over 100 miles of shoreline. Manzanita, Oak woodland, chaparral and the lake’s associated wetland ecosystems dominate the area. Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument lands and Cache Creek Wilderness areas are adjacent to the Clear Lake area. If you’re lucky you may spot Tule Elk roaming them. Birders find fulfillment. Lake County vineyards and wineries abound. The ecology, geology and history of the region will keep you fascinated. Come and see why guests describe our view as spiritual, and people say Lake County puts the “country” in wine country. Guest access Guests have full access to the home except for the garage which is reserved for cleaning/ maintenance staff storage and use. There are 2 single person kayaks available for guest use during their stay if requested. Request can be made by contacting us upon booking so our cleaning and maintenance staff knows to remove them from storage while on the property. Kayaks can be transported to water access via a kayak cart if on foot or kayak roof rack if driving. Please rinse kayaks off with our hose after returning from the water. A propane fire pit, patio heater, and grill are provided on the deck for guest use. Please no other open flames or smoking allowed on the property. For the safety of our guests we request they do not go beyond the livestock fencing surrounding the home as the terrain can be steep and uneven. We store our small airstream camping trailer on the property, which is unoccupied unless we take it camping with us. We will only move it on and off the property between guest stays if we need access to it so as not to disturb our guests. Sorry, at this point the trailer is not available for rent or access to guests. Other things to note Please no shoes inside if at all possible. There is a short segment of unpaved dirt drive to get to our gate from the road. It is mostly flat and level but a short inclined section at the beginning may become muddy/slippery in wet weather. Outside there are 2 steps up from ground level to the front door stoop. There are 3 steps with hand rail from ground level to the deck. There are no stairs indoors. There is a metal radio tower structure from a previous owner next to the home- no climbing allowed. Depending on cellular provider, service has the potential to be variable on the property- guests can feel free to connect phones to Wi-Fi during their stay to avoid this. During temperature shifts (usually during cooler weather), we sometimes hear a popping noise from the roof while in the home. The inspector confirmed this is due to expanding and contracting beams in the roof’s construction method that was popular in the 90’s when the home was built, and has no effect on structural integrity. Being in a relatively rural area, we do experience the occasional power outage, though they are not common. They have typically been short- a few hours at longest but rarely longer than a few minutes to an hour. Please be aware that insects, like people, enjoy being close to the water in warm weather too. They provide food for the fish, birds, dragonflies and other wildlife. We make every effort to keep them out of the home but it is impossible to guarantee they won’t occasionally enter through open doors or sometimes window screens if tiny enough. Guests should have a certain level of comfort with possible insect sightings if they stay here. Clear Lake also has its very own midge/gnat which intermittently emerges during temperate weather. Though they may resemble mosquitoes, they are non-biting and are generally more interested in their own activities than bothering people or pets. They are attracted to light so guests may want to minimize outdoor lighting when not in use, and close doors quickly after entering/exiting the home when midges are present. We do use amber outdoor bulbs where possible to try to minimize attracting bugs while still providing illumination. Keep in mind a wide variety of small critters are also common outdoors in rural areas- lizards, field mice, etc. and are also part of our healthy ecosystem. Clear Lake is a shallow, natural lake and like many lakes is subject to algae blooms in the warm weather (usually July, August in this lake). Swimming is not advisable during blue-green algae blooms which are sometimes located in specific areas of the lake, so please pay attention to any posted warning signs and employ online research about local water/algae conditions before your stay or attempts to swim. Please keep in mind we currently have live plants in the house, and a few prickly/sharp plants outdoors- in case guests are traveling with dogs or young children who might try to touch or taste them. Up to 4 guests are included in the rental price. There is a $40 fee for each additional guest per night- up to 2 additional guests (6 guests total). Please indicate total number of guests and dogs at time of booking and notify us if the number changes. Up to 2 dogs allowed with $75 fee per dog, per stay. Dogs must be house-trained, not allowed on furniture, and not left alone on the property. ***Please be aware that we do not charge guests the full cleaning rate we pay to the cleaning service, and we are charged additional fees for excessive additional time/work removing dog hair or other debris from furniture. Guests will be responsible for any additional cleaning fees incurred. In order to keep our property dog- friendly we thank you for being considerate of our dog policies above and below.*** Please no dogs in the back/side yard area of the property as we try to establish a small, mostly California Native, pollinator-friendly garden. (We will see if the deer, rabbits and dry summers allow it ;)). And please keep dogs out of any obvious planting bed areas. Please pick up after dogs immediately to help keep our property pooch- friendly for future guests to enjoy. Thank you!
