Casa Copal Nature and Reconnection

Description

Casa Copal is surrounded by nature while still being close to Malinalco's center within a peaceful neighborhood. Relax on the terrace with mountain views, in the 32°C (90°F) heated pool, or among the fruit trees in the garden. A retreat for you and your loved ones where you can connect and recharge your energy. We are Guillermo and Liz. We’ll be delighted to share our space with you. We team up with Nóvea, as our co-host, to provide you with the best experience. The space After many years of dreaming about a space like this, we finally fulfilled our vision with Casa Copal. We wanted a peaceful place surrounded by nature, yet also part of a vibrant Mexican town with enough utilities and easy access. We found all of this in the Santa María neighborhood or barrio within the mystical Malinalco. We always thought the house should have an organic architectural style that honored Malinalco's traditional materials. It's pleasant to be surrounded with the earthy tones that cover the polished floors and walls of Casa Copal, and make contact with the stone, clay, and wood that dress the house. All of this with some contemporary touches, adequate ventilation (with ceiling fans and windows with mosquito nets) and plenty of light within the spacious and functional spaces for comfort. Our favorite part of the house is the terrace: with views of two of Malinalco's most iconic hills; with an orientation that keeps it cool all day; with a large round table and comfortable armchairs; and above all, with a practical integration with the kitchen, garden, and pool. The 1,500 m2 garden is for us a work of art in progress: a mix of native and exotic trees, some fruit trees, some evergreen, and others that shed their leaves and become covered in flowers in winter. We left the native grass in the garden (which turns yellowish during dry season) except for the pool area, where we planted a softer grass (which we keep green all the time) for everyone's comfort. We preferred not to build so many walls and instead planted green walls that provide security and protection while showing flowers and leaves in various shades of green and yellow (the perimeter of the property is completely closed, because our green walls are over concrete block walls or chain-link fences with reed sticks and shade nets) For us, it was important that the property respect the environment as much as possible. That’s why Casa Copal incorporates many sustainable features: We heat the pool with a high-efficiency heat pump that maintains a consistent temperature; our photovoltaic panels help offset the electricity consumption of the house. Water is heated using solar energy, with an electric backup to ensure hot showers at all times. We reuse greywater to irrigate parts of the garden, allow rainwater to naturally filter back into the ground, do not use gas, and compost by separating organic and inorganic waste. All of this is part of a deeper intention: to live in harmony with the land and to create a space where comfort and sustainability can coexist. At Casa Copal, we believe that caring for the environment is not a limitation, but an opportunity—to reconnect, to slow down, and to experience a more conscious way of living, even if just for a few days. The most important part of our dream is being able to enjoy it with the people we love most, first with our children and then with family and friends who we know will enjoy a simple, relaxed, and profound get togethers in this space we have created. But it's also important to share it through Airbnb with families who identify with our values, appreciate nature, and want to interact with the Malinalco community, cherishing and respecting its traditions. For those who love to hike, there are trails just a few minutes away that take you to the nearby hills; if instead of taking your car to get to town in five minutes, you prefer to walk, in fifteen minutes you'll be in the main square, ready to visit the market, eat in a delicious and cozy restaurant, climb the Cerro de los Ídolos to see the archaeological site, enter the augustinian convent and appreciate its murals, or simply walk through the streets of the town and encounter something unexpected. If our words resonate with you, you're welcome to this space!
