Large room with queen bed on main floor with shared bathrooms, kitchen, and living room. We do not have AC but provide big fans. Deck out back with view of scenic valley, rolling hills, and Tannery Creek. Quaint Northern Michigan downtown, shopping, rivers, lakes, beaches, dunes, parks, hiking, and biking nearby (2-3 miles). Coffee/tea provided. This is a communal living space with shared bathroom: there are two Airbnb guest rooms. NOTE we have a dog. No cleaning fees! The space Minutes from life in an enchanting northern town, vast dunes on the Lake Michigan shoreline, and a trail system through some of the highest and most scenic hills in Michigan, our peaceful abode is a great launching point for the up-north experience and endless outdoor adventure. Enjoy a variety of shopping and dining opportunities in downtown Petoskey, a 5 minute car ride (2.5 miles) or 15-20 on bike. While in town, take a moment to walk through the Bear River Valley Recreation Area to experience the cascading waters of one of Michigan's premier white-water paddling destinations - the Bear River has the steepest drop of any river in the Lower Peninsula in its last mile. Little Traverse Bay (the fourth largest in Lake Michigan) and Petoskey State Park with its mountainous dunes and beautiful sandy beaches are even closer, nearly visible from our back deck. North Country Trail passes within a few miles, traversing some of the arguably most breathtaking terrain in the Lower Peninsula. On top of these notable destinations, there are dozens if not hundreds of other treasures to explore in the area, including parks, nature preserves, lakes, streams, other nearby towns with charming northern character (Harbor Springs, Boyne City), and the Big Mac(kinaw Bridge) some 30 miles to the north. In between your day's activities and adventures, you can rest easy in a safe, quiet neighborhood in the picturesque Tannery Creek valley. A spacious, clean, and comfortable room with a queen bed, dresser, and closet is provided on the main/upper floor of a ranch-style house. A full shared bathroom is located directly across the hallway. Check out views of the Tannery valley and surrounding hills while relaxing on the deck outback or swinging in the hammock. We have always lived with a "mi casa es su casa" approach, whether family, friends, or others. If staying as a guest, you have free reign in the house provided you are reasonable and respectful - yours to use, but not abuse. People generally consider us quite laid-back. At the same time we enjoy conversation and are perfectly willing to provide guidance regarding local activities and attractions. If you're into outdoor adventure, whether hiking, paddling, biking, etc, we can provide a LOT of input. We are often off working or playing (hiking, paddling, etc) during the day and working on house projects in the evening (remodeling, gardening, etc.). The house is at the end of a private drive, with plenty of parking. The neighborhood is very quiet, safe, and peaceful. There are many acres of natural landscape out back with wetlands, forest, hiking trails, and Tannery Creek, a small but high quality brook trout stream. Opportunities for wildlife viewing abound with great blue herons in the ponds alongside the creek, deer grazing in the meadows, and coyotes yapping in the night. Unfortunately, our little town still lacks public transit, though bikes can be rented and are suitable for getting to many of the local attractions. Walking is also an option, requiring some 45 minutes to get to downtown Petoskey and approximately the same to Little Traverse Bay and Petoskey State Park (or 15 minutes on bike). Taxi service is also available. Please note that we now have a dog. She is an energetic, yet typically well-behaved Blue Heeler named Amaru. She may occasionally bark, but is generally quiet. Guest access Guest have access to room, bathroom, kitchen/dining room, deck, yard, and four acres out back. Nearby roads are not great for walking/running due to traffic and narrow shoulders, but there are many nearby trails in urban and wilderness environments. Parking for multiple cars is available in our driveway. During your stay We interact with guests as much or little as they like. Always happy to hang out and chat, have a drink, and perhaps even dine together. Other things to note Licensed, therapeutic massage available upon request at Annette's business 2 miles from house! AirBnB experience hosting soon available for paddling, biking, hiking, and eco-tours, as well as disc golf.
