Other things to note PETS are NOT allowed. * Tourist tax (2.50€person/night) is NOT included in the price and will be collected on site The hotel was first built in 1929 by Jakob Slivnik, who was only 27 years old at the time. He owned the farm “pr’ Španu” and began construction in his garden, right next to the Podhom railway station. He financed the building by collecting spruce bark all over Pokljuka and Mežaklja and transporting it to a leather factory in Majšperk, where tannin was extracted from the bark for tanning hides. The hotel was completed in 1930. That same year, Jakob’s daughter Marija was born. She also had a sister, Francka, and a brother, Janko. The ground floor of the hotel housed a restaurant and a shop, while the first and second floors were reserved for guest rooms. Each floor had four double rooms, three single rooms, and only one shared bathroom. In the basement, there was an ice storage room (refrigeration), as well as storage for wine and other drinks. The wooden part of the building often hosted lively celebrations with live music, with a different band playing on each floor. They also organized raffles, dessert-baking competitions, and even screened films before the Second World War. In front of the hotel, they kept their own horses and carriages that took tourists to Bled or Vintgar Gorge. After the Second World War, the Yugoslav authorities nationalized the hotel and converted it into six apartments. No one took care of its maintenance. When Slovenia gained independence in 1991, the hotel was returned to the original owners in 1992. Sadly, Jakob Slivnik had passed away a year earlier. The property was inherited by his three children. In 2020, the family finally agreed that the owner would become Jakob’s grandson, Marjan Rejc. That marked the beginning of a major renovation, as the hotel was in poor condition. The roof, windows, and doors had to be replaced, the façade restored, and all installations renewed. The hotel reopened to guests at the end of July 2024. It now offers four apartments and two en-suite rooms, accommodating up to 20 guests in total. The interior is designed in a 1930s style, while featuring modern air conditioning, ventilation, and underfloor heating. Guests are especially impressed by the beautiful rooftop terrace and the spacious, well-designed apartments. After many years, the hotel is once again run by a family business.
