Description
Welcome to Otterly A-maine-zing, located in Otter Creek on Mount Desert Island in Maine. This adorable 2-bedroom cottage is conveniently located for all your Acadia adventures. Walk right out the front door and on to the trails! The Otter Creek trail connects to Otter Cove where you can watch for seals, hunt for sea glass, enjoy a day at the beach or continue your hike up the trail to Gorham Mountain, Beehive, Sand Beach, Thunderhole and beyond! The space Otterly A-maine-zing has everything you need to make your stay comfortable while you enjoy your Maine vacation. There are two full bedrooms, each with a queen bed. There is also another sleeping space with a full size bed. What we call the half bedroom, is a pass through room to the back bedroom but it includes doors between it and the living room and the back bedroom for privacy. The house has a fully stocked kitchen, even including a lobster pot and lobster utensils. Walk up to Otter Creek Market, buy a fresh lobster and cook it right here! Right near the market you'll also find a playground and a bus stop for the Island Explorer! Hop on board and travel around the island for free! Enjoy the peace and quiet in our front garden, on the enclosed front porch or even out back on the hammock (where you can enjoy seasonal views of Cadillac mountain! ). Or head out the front door and right into Acadia! The trail leads to a plethora of other trails, including Gorham mountain with can lead to Beehive, sand beach and beyond! You can do a whole loop from the house all the way around to the top of Cadillac and back down without ever having to get in your car! Just up the road is Seal Harbor (5 minutes) where you can find shops, restaurants, and a beautiful beach. Or head into Bar Harbor, only about an 8 minute drive, where you'll find restaurants, entertainment, shops and a full grocery store. Then come home and enjoy the tranquility at Otterly A-maine-zing. Guest access Guests can use the whole house. Only excluded zones are the attic and the garage. Other things to note Our cottage was originally built in 1908 and wad added onto several times over the years. We have lovingly renovated it, keeping much of its original charm as possible. You'll notice some of the original exterior walls on display in some of the rooms. That being said, the ceilings are lower than a newer house, at about 7.5', the shower has a sloping ceiling though the peak by the shower head is about 7.5'. Note - the village of Otter Creek is completely surrounded by Acadia National Park and the cottage is directly across the street from the park- and its many forest inhabitants. You may see deer, turkeys etc during your stay and, although we have taken all possible precautions to keep the critters outside where they belong, we cannot guarantee you won't encounter them during your stay. No refunds will be issued for any such encounters. Please note: Power outages can occur from time to time on MDI, especially during severe weather (noreasters, winter storms etc). Our property does not have a generator, so guests should be prepared for potential outages. We will provide flashlights and emergency water for guests' use. We will do our best to message guests about any upcoming potential events such as large storms. The internet is usually very good but it's possible that during these storms you may experience a lapse in internet connection, it will not work if the power goes out. These are not usually a concern during our peak seasons, May-October, as our bigger storms usually come at the end of fall and over the winter/early spring. These notes aren't meant to deter you from visiting in the off season, just a heads up about potential for more severe weather and possibly power outages. We hope you love this cottage as much as we do. Our goal is to make your Maine stay your best ever vacation!
