Onnenmaja is located in the middle of Lake Immolanjärvi near Varkaus and offers a lovingly restored ensemble of summer house and sauna house, surrounded by 3,600 m² of untouched nature. The electricity comes from the solar system, the drinking water (via a Berkey filter) from the lake and the wood for heating from the forest. It can't be more sustainable. Welcome to Onnenmaja – your private island in the Finnish lake district. Onnenmaja means "land of happiness" – and this is exactly the feeling that arises here automatically. After a careful renovation, the traditional ensemble of summer house (Mökki) and sauna house opens its doors to guests who love nature, peace and sustainability. The island is yours only during your stay. No narrowness, no traffic – just water, wind and birdsong. The summer house features bright wooden surfaces, high ceilings and a cozy, clear atmosphere. The transfer (about 300 m) takes place with a rowing boat or with the motorized bathing platform. Parking is available on the shore. Other things to note Onnenmaja is the second island that we have lovingly restored – after the great success of Nuottisaari. Every screw, every board was brought by boat to work as resource-efficiently as possible. FAQ – Frequently asked Ask How do I get to the island? With the rowing boat (included). The island is 300 m from the mainland, parking 20 m from the boat dock. Is there electricity or Wi-Fi? No public power grid & no Wi-Fi. Solar energy for light & appliances, ideal for a real "offline" experience. How does the water work? Water filter system treats seawater to drinking water. 60 L of drinking water is available upon arrival. How is heated? All cabins & sauna with wood stoves. Firewood is available. What is the sanitary situation like? Dry toilet & hot shower via wood-fired boiler. Is there a kitchen? Yes – in the main house (gas stove, wood stove, sink, dishes & cooking utensils). What about mosquitoes? Depending on the season (June/July more). Mosquito repellent & Thermacell devices available. Where do I shop? Various supermarkets in Varkaus (8 km). A rowing boat is of course included. The parking lot is about 200 m from the island. Firewood is provided, but please handle it carefully - the resources of an island are limited. We provide you with duvet covers, bed linens and towels upon arrival. The cold cellar also cools to refrigerator temperature in midsummer. Mushrooms, blueberries and cranberries are available – depending on the season – on the island or in the surrounding forests. Excellent fishing waters. Absolute tranquility in nature.
