He can arrange airport pick up for you, taxis, tours and more.***) This newer house is faithful to Classical Mexican Design consisting of arches, iron worked windows, and great and colorful tile work. The kitchen is new and updated with the finest SMEG Brand stainless steel appliances. The beds have the best, quality, memory foam mattress you can buy. The ground floor (First floor) is a no steps area. This is also fine for someone with limited mobility. There is a bedroom off the living room / dining / kitchen area and it all opens on to a sunny patio full of flowers and blooms. Plus there is a private garage. This is a rarity in down town San Miguel and few homes have a garage. There is a whole house water filtration and purification system. You can bathe in, and drink the water. (not in that order : ) The house is elevated and the roof top terrace offers the finest and unparalleled vistas of the city with its four churches. It's pure magic at night. With the mountains in the distance, the entire city is at your feet! We do have a prime viewing location! Next door our neighbors have a convenience store or tienda in Spanish. Its small but great for popping out for milk, snacks, bread and other supplies that you might run out of. Its a short 10 minute walk to the center of town where everything is happening and the four main churches including the Parroquia - Church to the Archangel St Michel is to be found in all its pink, baroque splendor. But hang on, the walk for many is the main attraction! But why? Four minutes away is the Market or Mercado. Shop for fresh local grown produce. Next to it is the Artisans Market. The Artisans Market is a delight. Its a narrow market filled with native crafts, jewelry, furnishings, souvenirs, clothing and such a variety of dazzling merchandise and it is at least a couple of miles long. So wear good shoes and take your time savoring the delights with your eyes. You will not be disappointed. Now you are not down town yet, but you might want to swing north instead of south. Also four minutes away is the famous "Live Aqua" an amazing world class top hotel with great restaurants and bars and fabulous architecture. Next to the Live Aqua is the "Prime Steak Club". This restaurant is world class and for design, decor and ambiance it is without parallel. Even if you are vegan stop in for the WOW factor. Its several thousand square feet of impeccable architecture, fountains, ponds, sculptures and magnificent design. I cant believe that this gem is in Mexico let alone in San Miguel. But it hints at the wealth and sophistication of this city. We are still only 5 minutes on our tour but we will walk on for another 5 minutes (ten in all) to La Fabrica. La Fabrica was a textile mill a hundred years or so, ago. Covering several acres it is now the center of artistic expression in this very artistic city. La Fabrica has some good family restaurants and stages for musical events on the weekends. It is also home to hundreds of galleries and artist studios. There are live art classes, galleries, ceramics, jewelry, home "things" and so much talent your head will spin. Take a weekend day to enjoy it. Lets head back from the Mercado to down town. You will know you are in down town when you see the beautiful pink church of the archangel de San Miguel also known as the Parraoquia. The main square is found there by the Churches. You will find Mariachi bands in the streets, people dancing in the square or perhaps a band on the bandstand. All around are shady trees and street vendors, clubs, international dining and bars. One is better than the next. You cant go wrong. The street food is safe and its good and inexpensive, so give it a go. One of my favorites Corn on the cob (non gmo) done in a way like you have never had it before. Try it and go back for more. Remember to try the ice cream vendors with flavors you have never dreamed of. They are wonderful. Also highly recommended is a tour and dinner at a wine estate. And an Early Morning Hot Air Balloon Ride. Taxis: Taxis work on a flat rate which is typically 100 pesos anywhere in the city. That's about US$5.00 So when you are loaded up with shopping, or simply exhausted from a full day, take a cab. Its easy and cheap, and the last block or two home is uphill, and that is why you have the fabulous views! Getting here: The Airport is an hour by car. You will fly into a city called Queretero. The Airport code is QRO. You can also fly into Leon and the drive is 90 minutes. We can arrange a private driver to pick you up at the airport. We can arrange tours and rides to wherever you need to go. Groceries and Supermarkets: "City Market" is a five star supermarket with high quality produce and exceptionally clean and upscale. It has food courts and coffee shops as well as a fresh bakery, a fresh fish counter, deli and a fabulous wine section where you can purchase a rare bottle costing several thousands of dollars! This is a favorite of ex pats and locals alike. Its much better than many North American supermarkets and prices may be similar to home. The same group that owns City Market also own "La Comer". With many of the same product lines as City Market, La Comer is like a Walmart in an expensive evening gown. This is a Hypermarket where you can get groceries, fresh bakery, similar to City Market, buy clothes, auto, home and garden, even buy a motor cycle. Its more upscale than Walmart with about as many product categories. Its a good place to shop for everyday items. Both City Market and La Comer are close to each other. A 15 minute cab ride from Casa Alegria will get you there. Also nearby is a large shopping mall with movie theaters. Overall San Miguel is an upscale, prosperous Colonial City, hundreds of years old, with ancient cobblestone roads blending with fabulous architecture, fine dining, exquisite shopping, creative galleries and affordable shopping and dining. Its a sophisticated place with authentic Mexican charm, and lovely people. Its very safe. Its expected to greet strangers, shop keepers, taxi drivers, and waiters, EVERYONE on the street that passers you by with a cheery and respectful "Buenas Dias" before noon, "Buenas Tardes" in the afternoon, and "Buenas Noches" at night.
