Hour from Denver. 25 min to Idaho Springs. 50 min to Loveland ski area. On the path behind the house there are abandoned buildings from the old mining community. 10,500 ft elevation. We are happy to share our home with you:) The space Sleeping One bedroom with a Queen bed. A second small bedroom with bunk beds. The beds are Denver Mattress Doctor's Choice Elite Euro Top. Bunk beds are not attached so you won't feel the other person move. There are also privacy curtains. Also, its possible to sleep in the living room on the couch, on the mat in the 5.5 ft long window nook, which has curtains, or on a slightly larger mat on the floor. Enjoying Incredible views of the lake, the immediate mountains including some of the glacier, and the distant mountains from the big windows in the living room and kitchen. When the weather is good it's hard not to spend most of the time on the deck. We know, we live next door. Nights are chilly even in summer. The wood stove is wonderfully cozy. After it reaches a certain temperature it blows hot air. Attached sizable wood fired sauna. There is also a telescope, canoe, snow shoes, and crampons your welcome to use. Ski's, bikes, and ATVs are not provided. Swimming is not allowed in silver lake but is allowed in the lake below the glacier. The Fundamentals Property has public sewer and electricity, in spite of remote high altitude location, thanks to preparations for the 1976 Colorado winter Olympics that never happened. There is no air-conditioning which is usually not an issue since it is cooler up here. It stays toasty warm with electric heat and/or a wood stove. Electricity does go out for the whole area a few hours every couple of months, more often in summer. There are lanterns for light. The water has also gone out for the whole area but rarely. Guest access Guests can access the entire house. I keep my things in one closet. When canoeing or fishing you must wear the badge because it is a private lake. Other things to note The Drive: In summer the drive is straightforward. In winter somewhat less so. The house is on a well plowed dirt road not far from a well plowed paved road. That said the paved road is steep and windy. If there is snow or ice you should have 4W drive, studded tires, or chains. I purchased chains on amazon for $30. There are no refunds for snowy roads provided the roads are open. Children: The house is not childproof. There is no screen around either the fireplace in the house or in the sauna. The hot tub does not lock. There is a lake adjacent to the property. There is a telescope. Also, mountain lions and bears are in the area. They are especially active at dawn and dusk. Closely supervise your children. Parking: Our short term rental license allows for two cars. If you have additional cars they can park at the St. Mary's Glacier parking which is $10 - $20/day. We have a contract for plowing in winter but you may also have to shovel during or just after a storm. Also, the house gets considerable drift from wind. Warm cloths: Bring some warmer clothes than you probably need, all year - just in case. Snow: The snow sparkles in the sun and also in the moonlight. We provide crampons, and snow shoes. In the driveway, approach to the house, and on the porches, you may be walking on packed snow and/or ice that may be slick. There is snow plow service during your stay. We have snow removal service after every major snow storm ends but you may need to shovel to get your car out or in. Contact me if it seems like the plow should come by but hasn't. I may be reachable by phone more quickly than by text. The front porch and paths to hot tub and sauna will not be shoveled during your stay. There are shovels on the property. I do not use salt to melt the ice because I do not want to pollute the lake. Water: The lake is very cold - aka glacier melt. Technically there is no swimming allowed on silver lake but it is allowed at the lake below the glacier. You are allowed to use water craft on Silver lake if your wearing the badge provided. No inflatable rafts allowed. There is a canoe and life jackets. Please make safe choices and monitor your children closely. You are also allowed to fish if you wear the fishing badge. In Winter the lake freezes. Sometimes ice fisherman go out on the lake. If you're attentive you can sometimes hear sounds coming from the shifting ice. Fire: Your welcome to make a fire. When using the indoor fireplace WATCH THE TEMPERATURE GUAGE. I should not go into red. If it does you might burn down the neighborhood. You keep the temperature down by avoiding putting too much wood and reducing airflow using the lever on the bottom. Elevation: The house is at 10,500 ft. This is slightly higher than most Colorado mountain towns. At this elevation many people sleep less well the first night and occasionally people have altitude sickness. You should know how to watch for the signs. Sunburn is more of a risk as is snow blindness, which is extremely painful. To be safe use sunscreen and sun glasses with UV protection. People with some medical conditions should not come to high altitude. There are no refunds for altitude related issues. Wind: There can be A LOT of wind, especially during winter. Careful what you leave outside. Always strap down the hot tub cover. Landscaping: There are areas with uneven ground and non-conforming steps. Guests: Maximum occupancy is 6. You may have up to 8 during the day including guests. Cancellations: Airbnb strict cancellation policy is enforced.
