You can walk or cycle past the atmospheric Neolithic Long Barrow: Wayland's Smithy, situated about a mile's walk along the Ridgeway from Uffington ‘Castle’, which occupies the summit of Whitehorse Hill, which is a rare and outstanding example of a large Iron Age hillfort. The famous White Horse is the oldest chalk-cut hill figure in Britain, perhaps over 3,000 years old. Nearby Dragon Hill, a natural mound about 10 metres high, is named for its association with the legend of St George slaying the Dragon. Oxford, just 30 minutes drive or by a regular and reliable bus service that passes the property, offers many historical attractions such as the Natural History Museum attached to the Pitt Rivers Museum, Bodleian library, elite universities as well as cultural and eclectic tours by open top buses or walks. For further retail therapy enter the Oxford Westgate Centre, taking in rooftop fine dining looking out over the panorama of spires and colleges of the cities' world famous universities. Couple this perhaps to "walking the city" and its academic heritage, partaking in tours such as the "Inspector Morse" trail of pubs and restaurants, or wander through the eclectic indoor market or just meander around one of the numerous parks. Take a punt out on the river with a picnic.
