Get away from it all in a secluded home atop a mountain in the VT National Forest. Home with large deck and panoramic view of the Green Mountains. Idyllic in all seasons. Summer is lusciously green; fall colors seen from our deck; the magic of winter. Tons of privacy, but minutes from lovely town of Rochester. 35 minutes to Killington and Sugarbush; snowshoeing outside your door, and tons of x-country trails nearby. **Winter tires or emergency chains needed from December-March.** We love our vacation home! It has been in the family for the 40+ years since it was built and well cared for that whole time. Uniquely situated, the house is 10 minutes from the town of Rochester, but high up in the hills on 2 acres of land. The photos do not even begin to do justice to our view. The house is the perfect combination of rustic cabin with comforts of home. We are atop a mountain in rural Vermont and highly recommend dedicated snow tires in the winter months, especially to climb our steep driveway. AWD helps but can be insufficient in icy or snowy conditions. We have 3 closed bedrooms (2 with queen beds and one with 2 twins) and a queen-sized futon in an open room on the lower level. The deck extends the length of the house and has a 180-degree view of the Green Mountains. One of the highlights of the home is the large built-in stone wood-burning fireplace. There is a large set of 40 stairs to climb to the entrance of the house. The house is rich in its amenities, but still rustic in its charm. We have a fridge, range, oven, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, blender, coffee machine, extra-large capacity washer and dryer, and small gas grill. Kitchen is fully equipped for cooking all meals. But it still feels like a remote cabin, filled with books to read and large sofas for relaxing in front of the fire. We have wi-fi and a TV with Amazon firestick. In the Great Hawk housing community, at the bottom of the mountain, there is a swimming pond, tennis court and pickleball court (bring your own racquets and balls!), and a small play structure for kids. We also have a pack-n-play, clip-on highchair, toys, board games, etc. It's a great home for kids of all ages. Short drive to many hikes, cross-country ski, and snowshoe, including the Long Trail. The whole house will be yours. Everything's included, including kitchen staples and toiletries. It is our home and our things, but you are free to use whatever we have in the house, which includes stocked kitchen cupboards, plenty of large towels, sheets, and blankets, and newly reupholstered sofas. Dogs (2 max) are permitted with prior approval. We will not be in the home when you are here. You will be letting yourselves into the house. You will be able to reach us via email and phone at any time and we have a local caretaker to contact with any problems. In the community housing, there is a swimming pond, tennis courts*, and a small playground. Hiking or snowshoeing is right outside your door. The house is in the Green Mountain National Forest, centrally located to get to great hiking on the Long Trail and other national park sites, berry picking, tubing down the White River and swimming holes. *Bring your own racquets; we do not have any for use. Rochester is a charming New England town. Great local dining includes five stellar choices- an upscale diner for breakfast and lunch (and one of the last soda shops in Vermont), bakery/cafe featuring great coffee, baked goods, and vegetarian fare (and free wifi), Maple Soul (local farm-to-table dinner in a small cozy environment), Doc's Tavern (often with live music) and the Huntington House dining room. We also have an art gallery and bike shop. There is an organic pick-your-own berry farm just outside of town (blueberries and raspberries!). PLEASE NOTE: The house is part of a housing community (Great Hawk) with ordinances regarding noise and disruptive behavior. There should be no noise audible outside the home at any time. We are also in the National Forest, which means that it is criminal to use fireworks or have outdoor fires of any kind. In addition you must observe speed limit of 30 MPH. All terrain vehicles, snowmobiles, and RVs are not allowed on Great Hawk. Hunting or firearms also prohibited. The house is in the Green Mountains, atop a hill, in rural Vermont. In the winter, the roads are plowed by the town of Rochester, but it is a small town and it could take a little bit of time before they reach our mountain after a storm. Snow tires on your car are ideal. Failing that, AWD or 4WD is needed, with tire chains for emergencies. 4WD/AWD is not needed in the summer or fall. **There is a large set of stairs to get into the house.** **In the winter, you will need a car with dedicated snow tires, and we highly recommend that guests have prior experience driving in winter conditions. The house is located on a mountain and has a steep driveway. While the roads and driveway are plowed regularly, we cannot guarantee their conditions at all times, and driving during a snowstorm can be very tricky. Please understand that this is rural Vermont and it is likely that there will be snowfall and snow on the roads at some point during your stay between December and April. Also, there is no cell service for the 5 minute drive from Rte. 100 to our house in the mountain if you get stuck. We do our best to ensure the driveway and stairs are prepared for you, but if you arrive during or just after a snowstorm, there may not be time to have them shovelled and sanded.
