Private, quiet, medium-sized furnished room with windows, an adjustable full-size bed, a desk/chair, and a TV with Roku. Enter through the gated side yard. Share access w/1 other guest to the bathroom, laundry, communal area with coffee/fridge+. Close to Bitter Lake, Interurban Trail, Asian market, transit. Our friendly dog & visiting cats will say hello. Stay warm/cool with optional fan, air cleaner, space heater. No smoking/fragrances. *Please read all info before booking! STR-OPLI-22-000590 This quiet and clean guest room is on the lower level of our North Seattle home, which is close to everything from local parks and a library to shopping. Watch your step coming in around the eastern-side yard. This large guest room tends to stay cool in hot weather and warm during the winter, but we have fans and a space heater, if you need them. The room looks out onto a small garden space, where you may catch tulips in the spring or tomatoes in the summer (help yourself!) The window ledges are a cat favorite. (Let us know if you're bringing a kitty and we'll add a scratching post to your room.) Enter by the side yard and use the secured keypad for access anytime. Watch your step coming to the door and your head (if you're tall) when going downstairs. Enter the foyer, a communal area with a small fridge, freezer, and coffee station. Also downstairs are the bathroom (shared with another downstairs guest) and a laundry room (with an iron and a large sink). Everything is fully stocked, or bring your own *unscented* shampoo or laundry and dish soap. Our curly-haired medium dog will announce your arrival (until he gets to know you). We're a family upstairs, so we make normal life noises. We're also night owls and introverts, so feel free to say hello (during the hours of 10-10ish please) or stay mostly to yourself, it's all good. Conveniently located 1 mile south of Shoreline, WA, our home is about 20 minutes by bus to downtown Seattle or a 35-minute drive to SeaTac Airport. Or, head to nearby Northgate to catch the rapid rail line. In addition to the entry way/stairs, the common area includes a shared desk (with 1 chair). On sunny days, you may want to check out our spacious fruit-filled backyard. *Use at your own risk.* Please watch your step! The guest room is also equipped with a small desk and chair, a dresser, and a television set (with a Roku device). Wifi (at a good speed) is available. A set of small windows offer a great ledge for cats and fresh air. Open the heating vent for more heat or close it to stay cool at night. The semi-private bathroom is for guest-use only. We supply clean towels and unscented toiletries if you need them. Please DON'T use strong scents as we have allergies (and strong fragrances do waft upward). If you're a cat lover, our extra fluffy cat may visit you. Our smart and energetic smallish dog may greet you or bark your arrival. (You may also hear cats or dogs chasing balls upstairs.) The pets usually get along well with everyone, but please check first if you're bringing your own fuzzy buddy or if you'd like a formal introduction to the household pets. Welcome! Large guest room in finished basement in 115-year-old, pet-friendly family home. Enter via the gated side yard (east side). You may also use the guests-only shared bathroom, laundry room, and a common area with a minifridge. Walk to nearby Bitter Lake or the Interurban Trail. Hop a bus to nearby Northgate or, a take a half-hour ride downtown. Our small-ish dog will say hello and our occasional fluffy Ragdoll may want to hang out. *No smoking/strong fragrances. *Please read all info & policies before booking. PETS: If you're bringing a dog, try to come by early so your dog can meet our dog. While you're here, we expect you to stay with your dog but also be open to friendly "dog play" whenever possible. Please don't bring a dog that isn't social because our dog will sit upstairs and cry every time you go in or out. Our pets are friendly, but our dog needs to meet you first. Our dog roams freely--in fenced areas only. The cat must stay indoors. Thank you for helping all us all get along! PEOPLE: We follow local rules/laws (city & state) re vaccinations and rental requirements. We're all vaccinated here and hope you are too. We're no longer wearing masks every day, but we're happy to keep our distance, but please let us know if this is a concern. We like to chat, but we like our private space too. We also respect yours: The room is private during your stay, while the rest of the downstairs guest area is semi-private (separate from us but you may encounter another guest). We're happy to visit/chat, or not. We can communicate through messaging, in person. Or, knock on our door to say hi. The guest rooms are in our finished basement, which is cozy, but also clean and furnished with select older furniture and artworks. The room tends to stay warm in winter and cool in summer, but we've added fans and space heater if you need them. If you like being outside, our garden has a lot going on (like different kinds of fruit, a garden, and various home perfects): You're welcome to use the outdoor furniture, but please watch your step, use the backyard at your own risk. When you head out, you'll find our home convenient to many local parks, businesses, and shopping. We're happy to provide a recommendations or answer questions. Or, check the guidebook for some of our favorite spots. Our urban home is central to just anything you might need. We're close to great coffee and restaurants, medical amenities, and parks. We're minutes from the freeway (by car) and within walking distance to buses headed downtown or to Northgate mall. We're 1 block from Bitter Lake Park and Community Center, but expect some closures due to COVID. The free COVID testing center is down the street on Aurora Ave. North. We're also close to UW/NW Hospital's North Seattle campus (on N. 115th St.). We're also within walking distance to many shops, including the nearby Asian Family Market (with many restaurants and stores). We're close to Shoreline with its waterfront amenities like Richmond Beach State Park and more great restaurants and shops. Just south of us is the Oak Tree Plaza, with shops, restaurants, and a movie theatre. To the north is Costco in Edmonds. To the north of us is Shoreline, Edmonds, and Lynnwood/Alderwood. At nearby Northgate, you can catch the new Light Rail rapid transit to quickly go to Alderwood Mall or south to downtown Seattle or Sea-Tac Airport. Great parks in the area include Richmond Beach, Carkeek, and Hamlin. We're central to several dog parks, including North Acres, Shoreline, and Woodland Park. (The zoo too!) Please see "Getting Around" and our guidebook for more information. And we're always happy to answer questions. Uber is popular here. Or use plentiful & free on-street parking if you drive. (Our driveway is available for short-term, like loading/unloading--please reach out first if you need to use it.) Nearby buses include the rapid E Line (Shoreline/Edmonds to/from downtown Seattle), 345 (Shoreline College/Northgate), and the 5 (Fremont/downtown Seattle). We're a block from the Interurban Trail near Bitter Lake Community Center, which is great for walking or bike riding (lots of guests come with bicycles). We're also close to a free COVID testing location in North Seattle. Parks nearby include these favorites: Boeing Creek Park, Hamlin Park, Richmond Beach parks, and Carkeek. We're also near excellent dog parks, including: Woodland Park (at Green Lake), North Acres (Seattle), and Shoreview Off Leash Park (at Shoreline college). Two community colleges are nearby: Shoreline and North Seattle. (We've taken many online classes through SCC and are happy to provide more info about this lovely 2-year college and campus.) > We are LGBTQ & BLM & ADA (disability/accessibility) friendly! Note that the lower house is NOT accessible for people with mobility issues. > You're staying in a basement, so there will be noise from upstairs. (If you're a light sleeper, please book only if you're certain our home will work for you.) Generally, guests have found a high level of privacy, but also light noise from footsteps or pets chasing a ball and so on. (Upon request, we will happily tiptoe and refrain from ball-tossing as best we can.) > For medical reasons, we like our air clear and breathable. Our home has a high-end, state-of-the-art air filtration system. We also have separate top-of-line filters and fans, which keep the air cool and clean, even when the outside air quality is smoke-filled. On that note, a HUGE Thank You for NOT smoking here or near here and also for NOT wearing perfumes (yes, we can tell). Thank you for not using any fragrances and perfume-y scents in our home -- even a strongly scented shampoo can cause severe issues for us! (Feel free to check with us first or use our *free to use* natural unscented products.) > We keep our costs to a minimum by absorbing most of the cleaning fees ourselves. please help by cleaning up after yourself. Thank you for respecting the space and leaving the rooms and facilities as tidy as you can. Unscented/low-scent cleaning and antibacterial supplies are available for your use. If you need help cleaning something up, please ask. A short cleanup/checkout list is available upon request. > Much as we love to host you and your pet, this is not a doggy daycare. Please plan on having your animal with you at all times (unless we discuss otherwise). We would, of course, love to meet your pet! Please reach out ahead of time and let us know what kind of creature you'll be bringing, so we can best prepare. > We do have pets so you may see pet "toys" around. We will gladly pick up or "check"/clean up upon request. (We do check the cat box and yard often. Also, if the cat isn't here, we'll remove the cat box.) > We have a large backyard and hot tub, but we ask that you be very careful how and where you step (some of the space is unfinished). Also, please be respectful (for example, no oils/shower first before tubbing). Use the backyard/hot tub at your own risk. > We also ask that you respect the property indoors. You're welcome to shower, use the laundry, etc. But over-usage impacts our water bill, so your courtesy and consideration will be much appreciated. > We're all introverts here, so we really respect your privacy. But we have our social side too and we'd love to hear about your plans and adventures if you feel like saying hello (up to you). Our dog may bark as you come and go, until he can meet you in person. > You may bring up to 1 furry guest (but please let us know-- not all dogs are a good fit here). Please don't leave your dog alone in your room (even in a crate). We're not dog sitters, but we're happy to recommend one. > Thank you for visiting and also for leaving at the end of your visit. We welcome shorter or longer-term guests by arrangement; you must specify both your arrival date and the day you'll be leaving. > Our basement was built a long time ago and it's not accessible by wheelchair. > Smoking isn't permitted as it creates a health hazard for us. Thank you for smoking/toking off our property. > Got questions? Reach out through Airbnb messaging 10am-10pm for any reason. (If you have an urgent issue, reach out anytime.) We will do our best to respond promptly to all concerns. You may knock on the door at the top of the stairs as well. Thank you!
