Description
This is our wooden shack, hidden away in our little corner of Norfolk. Stay here and share some of the country idyll that we love. This is a peaceful, remote position, and we treasure the space, nature and peace we’re surrounded by - and hope you will too. The Shack has been built, fitted and furnished using up-cycled, re-cycled, reclaimed, new, old, vintage, shabby, retro, re-purposed or anything different or quirky. We’re constantly adding to it. No telly. Limited WiFi. Time out, guaranteed. The space The cabin has been built using timber cladding and batten sourced as a by-product from a local timber mill. The verandah is made from used scaffold boards, and the roof is covered in corrugated steel reclaimed from the roof of an old Norfolk barn. Overall internal size is 6m x 5m, and within this space is the en-suite with shower, flushing toilet and bathroom sink. The King size bed was formed from scaffold boards, disused corrugated steel panels and some of the eucalyptus cut down from the grounds. We heavily insulated the roof and walls to ensure the cabin is warm in Winter and cooler in Summer. An efficient wood burner provides the main source of heat, which was sourced from a local supplier, as was the outside verandah log/coal burning oven/heater. All the wood we burn is from the grounds here. We're surrounded by farmed fields, ditches, ponds and wildlife. At times all or any of these things can smell. (Most of the time, they don't!) During harvest time the farmland can be worked from early to late and may involve sone noise and dust, but it’s never long lived. We're about 3/4 mile away from a feed mill - and if the wind blows from the North East (rarely) there can be a faint country smell and some occasional noises. The 1/3 mile unmade track that leads to our property is just that - don't bring the Ferrari, you’ll regret it 😀 It’s mostly flat now (autumn ‘25) as it’s been graded and is mostly decent gravel and chippings. If you arrive by cycle/motorcycle, we can store your bike/s in the garage or workshop - and if you need to use the space for any repairs or need to borrow tools that's ok. Guest access We have 2.5 acres of land that we’re rescuing, and you’re welcome to use it. There are 2 ponds here, with a number of ditches, and whilst we’re now reluctantly familiar with our dogs taking a dip, they can end up rather smelly so beware! There’s a hose and tin bath at the shack which can be used to wash your dog if required. We’ve built a jetty out over the main pond which has a seating area and chiminea and, again, we’re happy to share these with guests. As a rule we walk our dogs off lead around 3 times a day - 8am to 9ish, 12 to 1ish and around 4.30 to 5pm. We’re frequently visited by duck, pheasant, moor hens, Egyptian Geese and a whole lot more so please be aware of them! The Shack overlooks farmland and you’ll frequently see groups of deer as well as hare and plenty of birdlife. Other things to note We’re conserving and encouraging the wildlife, especially bats and tawny owls, so would appreciate it if the Shack electric lights are used as little as possible. There are tea lights and lanterns around the verandah as well as some LED lights, so please help yourself but be careful of the obvious surrounding fire hazards! ⚠️ There are solar powered lights to light the way across the ground, as well as lanterns around the jetty over the main pond. As a rule the outside lights to the main house are off unless we’re outside, so if you’re likely to be returning to the shack in the dark just let us know and we’ll make sure to leave them on until you’re back in.
