In the evening, venture out to see one of the 13 indigenous villages surrounding the lake or take up a volcano climb and kayak trip. The combination of our "Casa" and the magnificence of the Lake region set the stage for a visit that you will hold in fond memory and hopefully... never forget. Guest access La Casa del Mundo is a beautiful eco-hotel and resort, located on the shore of majestic Lake Atitlan. We have a variety of amenities and activities that will add to your experience on the lake. An artisanal steam sauna, wireless internet, book exchange and games, snorkeling sets, and other amenities are complementary. A wood fired hot tub overlooking the lake, kayaks, paddleboards, professional massages, hiking tours, horseback riding tours, cultural tours of the lake, paragliding, and other activities are available at an additional cost. We also have a renowned restaurant offering breakfast, lunch, and family style dinners, with fresh, locally grown ingredients. Other things to note Recycling is practiced by all of our employees and is a very essential part of our waste management. We have succeeded in finding practical methods to recycle, reuse, and reduce all materials we use to fulfill the needs of our guests. All recycled materials are transported out of the hotel. Used plastic bags are washed dried and donated to be used for weaving projects by cultural associations. We protect the hotel’s surrounding waters, as much as we possibly can. Our septic system has been designed to pump all of our drain water up to water treatment tanks well above the hotel. From there, the waste is filtered and then used to irrigate the surrounding forests. Our solar hot water system is self-sustained and it provides the hotel with high pressured hot water 24/7. We recently installed solar panels on one of our patios by the lake. These panels provide a sizable portion of the electricity consumed by the hotel. Our goal is to eventually become 100% self-sufficient, thereby, reducing our carbon footprint.
