Other things to note Wildlife in Joshua Tree, California: What to Expect Joshua Tree is a stunning desert destination teeming with unique wildlife. While exploring this beautiful area, you may encounter a variety of animals, from adorable desert critters to majestic birds. To help you prepare for your visit, here’s what you can expect: Desert Animals: The area is home to coyotes, jackrabbits, bighorn sheep, and ground squirrels. While most are harmless and avoid human contact, it's best to observe them from a distance. Birdwatching: Joshua Tree is a bird lover's paradise. Keep an eye out for roadrunners, quail, and hawks soaring overhead. Reptiles: Lizards and snakes are common here, including the non-venomous gopher snake and, occasionally, rattlesnakes. Be cautious and avoid disturbing them. Insects and Arachnids: You might spot tarantulas, scorpions, or desert beetles during your stay. These creatures are generally shy but can be active, especially at night. Tips for Enjoying Wildlife Safely: - Never feed or approach wild animals. - Keep doors and windows closed to prevent curious critters from wandering inside. - Be cautious when hiking or walking through rocky areas, as reptiles may be hiding. - Use a flashlight when walking outdoors at night to spot any nocturnal animals. - Joshua Tree’s wildlife is part of what makes this area so special. By respecting the animals and their environment, you’ll have a safe and memorable experience while enjoying the incredible natural beauty of the desert. NOISE ORDINANCE Quiet hours are 10pm-7am.
