The space Welcome to our beautifully renovated bungalow, a spacious and thoughtfully reimagined home that blends modern design with comfort and luxury. When we purchased this property in 2022, it was near ruin. Over the course of a year, we meticulously transformed every inch of the house, working closely with a local architect to restore its charm while introducing updated amenities and timeless features. From replacing the majority of the floor joists and flooring to redoing the roof, no detail was overlooked. Upon entering the home, you are greeted by an open and inviting layout. The dining room is to your left, and the living room to your right, both offering easy access to the chef-inspired kitchen. The heart of the home, the kitchen, features a stunning 13-foot island with comfortable seating for six. It's perfect for casual meals, family gatherings, or prep space while you cook. For the home chef, the 48" KitchenAid commercial-style range, complete with a chrome electric griddle, is a dream. The six-burner gas range includes two Ultra Power dual-flame burners, each delivering 20,000 BTUs for precision searing, simmering, stir-frying, and sautéing. The double oven with Even-Heat true convection ensures your baking and roasting are consistently perfect. On the main floor, the king bedroom provides a restful retreat, while the adjacent office, complete with a queen sleeper sofa bed, offers versatility for both work and relaxation. The full bath conveniently serves both of these spaces. At the back of the house, you'll find a complete laundry room, featuring a raised washer and dryer for added comfort. The kids’ room, located just down the hall, is designed for comfort and fun, with a bunk bed and trundle bed that can sleep up to four. This floor also includes a full bathroom with two separate vanities, a bathtub, and shower, ideal for families. A queen bedroom with an ensuite bathroom offers privacy for guests, while the primary bedroom is a true sanctuary, featuring a king-size bed, a freestanding soaking tub, a spacious walk-in shower, and his-and-her vanities. Guest access Guest are welcome to use the entire home. Other things to note Our home is located in the historic Norwood neighborhood, which is currently undergoing a significant transformation. The City of Birmingham is making substantial investments in the area, with millions of dollars allocated toward revitalization efforts. This has sparked considerable interest from investors, and many people are excited about the neighborhood’s future. Norwood was once a thriving community, home to doctors and nurses who worked at the nearby Carraway Hospital. Unfortunately, when the hospital closed in 2008 after over 100 years of operation, the neighborhood faced economic hardship. The 2008 recession further impacted the area, with many residents moving to newer suburbs, and properties fell into disrepair. However, there is a resurgence happening, with new investors and community members revitalizing the area due to its historic homes, green spaces, and its proximity to downtown Birmingham. Many of the homes in the neighborhood feature stunning architectural styles, such as Craftsman, Bungalow, and American Foursquare. It was our love for these architectural treasures and the vision for Norwood's revitalization that drew us to invest in this community. Since purchasing our home, we have met many other investors and long-term residents who share our enthusiasm for the neighborhood's transformation. This includes the creation of: A workforce training center Micro-transit options A Child Care Center of Excellence A Birmingham Black Business Entrepreneurship Center Transportation Alternative Set Aside Program (TAP) Grant: The city has secured an $800,000 grant to develop a two-way cycle track along 15th Avenue North, connecting Norwood Park to the former Carraway Hospital site and the MAX bus stop. Old Carraway Hospital Redevelopment Project: The city is redeveloping the 50-acre site of the former Carraway Hospital, with plans for new housing, office spaces, retail, restaurants, and entertainment. The Star at Uptown: This $300 million project will bring mixed housing, retail, and an amphitheater to the Norwood community.
