Nestled under oaks on 300 acres of farmland and forest this secret paradise is just 1 km down a dirt lane from the main house. Your luxury adventure is what you make of it! Choose to stay in camp and unwind in the basswood sauna, stargaze from the wood burning stock tank hot tub(available when not bloody cold) or explore the network of trails. Dog friendly The space Located 1km down a dirt-farm laneway, Whitetail Cabin is a 12x16’ cabin built in the late 1970’s as a place for our family to stay while we made maple syrup each spring. The cabin and enclosure( roughly 1 acre) is surrounded by a 4’ high wire fence suitable for keeping your pet safe off leash and keeping unwanted critters from disturbing the camp. Tucked under mature hardwoods at the edge of a large forest, Whitetail Cabin offers beautiful sunrises with its south eastern exposure while being at least 500m from your nearest neighbours! Enjoy quiet walks through the surrounding farm with beautiful vistas and lots of wildlife. Having experience with wood burning stoves (to heat the cabin or cook with) is an asset for your comfort but we are happy to help if needed. The outdoor kitchen has your choice of bbq or fire pit for cooking needs; with pots, plates and utensils etc. all stored outdoors. The indoor refrigerator/freezer has ample room for your needs and has some common condiments available. Retreat to a simpler time and enjoy the experience of living off the land at Whitetail Cabin. Guest access Guests will drive directly to the cabin during good weather and during inclement weather conditions guests will be taken to and from camp by either a hay wagon ride or a ride in the back of our 4wd safari truck! Other things to note Wood fired hot tub (stock tank hot tub) Safe axe use and good fire safety/knowledge a MUST! Do not bring fire starter/fuel to start fires. They will damage the boiler and fireplace. All fire starting materials will be provided. Whitetail Cabin offers many amenities including solar power with a battery bank to provide comforts and convenience to guests. The power generated by our solar array is there to power the water pump and system, refrigerator and freezer, lights indoor and outdoor and some power to charge electronics and devices. Please limit your use to devices that use low amperage so as not to trip the breaker. Items such as hair dryer, kettle, heated blankets etc draw too much power and will result in tripping the breaker. Driving to and from the cabin is usually best in a SUV or pick up truck with awd as the laneway can get muddy and slippery. In the event it is too wet to drive to the cabin there is a parking lot located 250 m from the entrance and 500m walk to the cabin. Your hosts are more than willing to pack your gear in by off-road vehicle while you enjoy a beautiful stroll to your secluded stay. A guide to using various items at the cabin such as stoves, shower system, hot tub and sauna will be provided either on this site and/or at the cabin in booklet format. Feel free to request a heated hot tub or sauna prior to your arrival for ultimate convenience. The cabin heat source is wood. While we provide bedding please bring extra blankets/sleeping bags if you are worried you will be cold. This lifestyle is primitive luxury.
