Description
Reconnect with nature in this unforgettable escape on a working flower farm mins to beaches, trails, & restaurants. Linger in the luxurious King bed on a romantic getaway or bring the kids (two comfy twins). An enclosed, dog friendly, oasis overlooking expansive meadows. Your pups can play to their hearts content while you rest in the hammock, stay up for some star gazing, or enjoy an amazing indoor or outdoor shower. There is a separate, private, kitchenette, laundry, and grill steps away. The space You feel a sense of peace the moment you enter through the gate and drive along a lovely meadow to the Yurt. Bordered on two sides by 15,000 acres of the Jug Handle Reserve and Jackson State Forest, you're close enough to hear the sound of the ocean and barking sea lions in the distance while sheltered from the wind in a secluded sun belt. With beautiful meadows, a private trail through a redwood forest, and a gorgeous flower farm, you'll feel like you've entered a unique place of respite. Only minutes from Mendocino and Ft. Bragg you can visit fine restaurants, explore the magnificent coast, hike the local trails, or simply stay on site and feel yourself unwind. In addition to a very comfortable King Flo-bed and 2 Twin beds, there are several comfortable chairs and a small dining table with seating for six. The beds all have down pillows and quilts, with 100% cotton linens. There is an excellent, quiet, propane heater in the yurt that heats up quickly. The Yurt itself has no plumbing, but a gorgeous, private Bath House is just a few feet away as part of a secluded little compound. It includes both indoor and outdoor showers and two toilets. There are also two sinks, with many cubbies to put things in, and hooks all around. The kitchenette includes a large toaster oven, an under-counter size refrigerator (tiny freezer), 2 hot plates, a hot water tea kettle, and a Chemex 6-cup coffee maker. There are pots and pans, glasses (including wine), mugs, cutlery, plates, etc. There's also a hammock, picnic table, and two ship deck lounge chairs for your star gazing pleasure. With our proximity to preserved forest land, we share our place with the natural world and many wild animals make it their home. It's a joy to sit outside and hear the sounds of the many birds (and quite often coyotes) and to discover traces of animals from bobcats to mountain lions to bears. Guest access The Yurt has a large parking area in front of the gate and enclosed area. You are welcome to walk the various paths throughout the woods and meadows on the property and visit the barn and gardens. The Yurt, Bathhouse and indoor shower are also wheelchair friendly. Other things to note Fog Tongue Farm is a working flower farm. We also have and extensive vegetable garden and numerous projects underway that aim to create and/or preserve habitat for native birds and animals, and pollinators in particular. We spend our time working to create a place that will be restorative to both the land and our guests. Our horse barn has been changed into a shared space where guests are welcome to shoot a game of pool or throw some darts. In our prior life we were the founders of two nonprofit organizations. We transitioned our former leadership roles and retired from our careers, but didn't retire from our values. We donate 10% of all of our bookings to organizations on the front lines of critical social justice struggles. In this very difficult time we are prioritizing organizations that support immigrant rights, free speech, democratic resilience, and peace & justice. We also look to be good neighbors by supporting local organizations and businesses that help those in need right here in Mendocino County. If you work for a nonprofit or volunteer organization addressing these issues and you are reaching out to inquire about a booking or reservation (either individually or institutionally) please let us know. If you see us out working on one of our latest endeavors, please come say hello.
