Camp Leapin’ Lizard
Camp Leapin’ Lizard
Description
A great location, 8 miles to BBNP; 12 to BBRSP, with a Chisos Mt. view, wifi, a picnic table, cook table, Coleman stove, tabletop grill, 2 Adirondack chairs, fire pit, rechargeable lantern, a sink for easy clean-ups, basic dishes and utensils for two, & shade from a large patio umbrella. Campers access a private outdoor shower and camp toilet nearby. Bring your own sleep system/bedding; whatever you prefer. Two things aren’t allowed; queen mattresses over 12” thick, and cots. The space Camp Leapin’ Lizard sits on 20 acres west of Big Bend National park, 2 miles from Terlingua Ghostown, the social epicenter of my community. It’s the only campsite here, though the adobe cabin, Leapin’ Lizard Guesthouse, is also on the property. My own house is 200’ west of that. There is plenty of privacy. It’s a mile and a half off pavement, and is a good road for any vehicle with normal clearance. Because it’s at the end of the road, there’s an uninterrupted view of BBNP. The closest visible neighbors are a mile away, and there are no power lines to clutter the view! The campsite offers a roomy canvas tent and everything else you may need to cook, relax, and enjoy the desert and its starry nights. Bring whatever bed/sleep system/ bedding you prefer. Everything else is provided! Guest access Guests have access to the whole campsite area, the parking space alongside the back of the tent, and the outdoor hot/cold shower and camp toilet nearby. All toilet paper belongs in trash, not the toilet please. At times I have other folks staying in the guest house, but they have a separate bathroom facility. It is not a shared space. Other things to note I have an 6 year old blue heeler, Ruby, who loves people, bacon, belly rubs, and toys. But please don’t feed her, no matter how cute she is! She’s a professional beggar who currently is on a careful diet. Everything on the property depends on a rain catchment system for water. Please be mindful of the amount of water you use when showering! Water is precious and hard to come by here, and I can’t emphasize enough how important conservation is. All toilet paper belongs in trash can provided.
