Other things to note Architectural Highlights: Notre-Dame Church as Seen from the Apartment Admire the architecture of Notre-Dame Church, whose neo-Gothic style draws inspiration from the aesthetics of the great cathedrals of northern France. You will appreciate its imposing dimensions, making it the second largest church in the diocese. Its two spires, reaching a height of 65 meters, are an unmissable landmark in the urban landscape. The Salt Granary Tower, 50 meters from the Apartment As you turn down Rue des Vieux Greniers, you will notice the Salt Granary Tower. Built in the 16th century, it was likely used to store salt subject to the Gabelle tax. An original architectural feature, the Tower has a distinctly medieval style overlaid with Renaissance-style decoration. Its red brick watchtower* gives it undeniable charm. You will appreciate the sculptures adorning the pediment of the entrance door. *Turret For history buffs: You'll be staying in Cholet's historic district, the oldest part of town. Take a look at the courthouse and the Saint-Louis theater, both visible from the Jardin du Mail, just a 2-minute walk away. These sites were once the castle and stables of the fortified city of Cholet. You can see the remains of the ramparts from the Jardin du Mail. The Jardin du Mail is also lovely, with its fountain and flowering trees, especially in spring. Envoyer des commentaires
