The building is on stilts, accessed by stairs and the wraparound deck is fitted with open railings that can be climbed up or through. The pool, deck and bar area has no fence or gate to prevent access. We can't emphasise this enough. If you're driving to Drake Bay, you need a 4x4 (4WD) vehicle. The roads have been greatly improved and during the dry season it is now easier than it's ever been to get around. However, if you want to explore the area or, if you're here during the green season, you'll no doubt come across rivers or streams that you need to drive through or steep hills you need to climb. Avoid awkward conversations with your rental company, a ruined holiday and unnecessary costs by making sure you hire a 4WD vehicle. Our Ocean View Penthouse is directly above our Ocean Suite and is part of the Southern Drake Lodge main building. We can't emphasise this enough. Due to the design of our open plan apartment, the sleeping areas are naturally ventilated and have ceiling fans. The apartment is also served by ocean breezes during the day and the jungle during the night. We have 3 rescue animals, a cat Gala and 2 dogs Rio and Bob, one of which Rio very boisterous with a lot of energy. The dogs are friendly and will want to play with you - particularly Rio. Our cat Gala will give a warning bite if you pet her and she's in a bad mood.
