Welcome to your DC home away from home. Fios internet and a comfortable desk makes this an easy spot to work. Our backyard treehouse and new city park across the street make it a fun place to play! No matter what your goals for your DC visit, this renovated English basement has everything you need! It’s a short walk to the metro with easy access to all the monuments and museums. Very walkable neighborhood with private entrance, full kitchen, washer/drier, high speed internet and more! This is a fully renovated one bedroom apartment with a full kitchen, bedroom with a queen bed, full bathroom, washer/dryer, central air. There is an HD smart TV with Netflix, Max and more and Fios internet. It will comfortably sleep up to 4 people. Empty closet and dresser for your clothes (no one lives here). There are two private entrances and the apartment is completely separate from the rest of our home. The kitchen was renovated in 2014 with stainless steel appliances, full sized oven/stove, fridge, microwave, kettle, French press, plates, utensils, pots, pans, linens and other essentials. There is an assortment of tea and coffee. We provide snacks, place settings for four and all the essentials. There is a full sized futon in the living room. Traveling with kids? We are happy to share toys/games/activities for kids of all ages and the fabulous Washington DC With Kids guidebook. We'll also be happy to share our favorite spots to take kids around the city. Our shared backyard space is available to guests with advance notice and coordination so we can bring the dogs in. It features a gas/charcoal grill and smoker, a picnic table that seats six, and a fire pit. For kids (and the young at heart, there is a treehouse (note it has an open platform 8’ off the ground) and a climbing wall, swings and hammocks. You are welcome to safely enjoy all these items with advance coordination with us. We live upstairs and are always happy to give recommendations on fun things to do in the city or tips on ways to get around. If you'd prefer a quiet visit, the apartment is completely separate from the rest of the house. So you don't need to see us any more than you'd like! Capitol Hill is an amazing neighborhood in Washington D.C. We are a short block to the metro (Orange/blue/silver line), three blocks to the grocery store, two blocks from the famous Pretzel Bakery. And if you have kids you will love the playground/park/green space just across the street! Other highlights close by: ** We are just a 15 minute walk to the historic Eastern Market where you can get the best crab cake breakfast anywhere, buy fresh fruit and veggies in the farmers market and on weekends enjoy the extended market full of unique and varied artisanal & flea market gifts ** Enjoy nature along the Annacostia River Trail a short walk away where you can reach The Fields at RFK and Kingman Island. Head the other direction and the trail takes you 2 miles down to Navy Yards and the Nationals Ballpark and Audi Stadium to watch DC United. ** A bike share station is two blocks away ** The historic Congressional Cemetery is just two blocks away ** For those with kids we are just across the street from a great playground and a 10-minute walk from Lincoln Park ** For those looking to stay close to museums and monuments, we are a block to the metro line and just 3-5 stops from the National Mall (depending where you get off). ** For bikers/runners we are a short distance from the Anacostia River Trail which is a lovely off-road path along the river all the way down to the Navy Yard and the Nationals Baseball Stadium and goes north through the beautiful Kennilworth Aquatic Garden and into Maryland. ***All guests get free use of 4 Smartrip passes. If you are coming by plane: - Arriving into Washington Reagan we are just 15 minutes' drive (with no traffic) and $20 Uber ride. You can also take the blue line and it will take you to the stop a block from our house (Stadium/Armory). - Arriving into BWI we are just 5 minutes' drive from 295, which takes you easily out of the city and is about 30-45 minutes from the airport. - Arriving into Dulles we are about 45-60 minutes' drive. The stop closest to the airport is Wiehle-Reston East (which is about a 15 minute cab ride from Dulles) on the silver line and it takes you directly to our house (Stadium/Armory). For those driving we have ample street parking and are happy to get you a parking pass when you arrive. It is one block to the Orange/Blue/Silver metro line. The bus stop for the 96/97 line is right across the street and several other buses stop just a block away at the Stadium/Armory stop. Please note we live upstairs with two children and two dogs so you will hear us when we are home.
