Feel like you’re on top of the world in the Strathbogie Ranges. Two hours from Melbourne CBD, Yanalinga is a quiet country retreat that provides a getaway for families or groups to do as much (or as little ) as you please. Read a book by the fire, enjoy the garden or explore the region: 20 mins to Yarck (on the Great Victorian Rail Trail), 25 mins to Euroa, 15 minutes to Creightons Creek, 30 mins to Alexandra, 30 mins to Yea, 45 mins to Lake Eildon, 50 mins to Mansfield, and 1.5 hr to Mt Buller. The space Yanalinga is a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom farm-stay cottage with 2 separate living areas and a study / games room. The house is surrounded by a very large garden where there are some beautiful old trees and places to sit and enjoy the peaceful surrounds (lots of comfortable chairs as well). We also have a great firepit in the garden and a Weber BBQ for guests to use. An old tennis court is fun for the kids to use for netball (goal post is set up) and ball games (no net or markings on the court at the moment for tennis). The house is on a working farm surrounded by cattle and different species of wildlife (wombats, kangaroos, cockatoos, kookaburras etc). NEARBY TOWNS + SERVICES Yarck (20 minutes) • Petrol station/convenience store, pub, small produce store, two cafes, Bucks Bakehouse bakery, second-hand bookstore. No supermarket. Euroa (25 minutes) • Supermarket, shops, cafes, hospital, dentist, vet. Yea (30 minutes) • Supermarket, shops, cafes, hospital, vet. Alexandra (35 minutes) • Supermarket, shops, cafes, hospital. ACTIVITIES Great Victorian Rail Trail The Great Victorian Rail Trail is Australia’s longest rail trail (134 kilometres), running from Tallarook to Mansfield with a branch line to Alexandra and can be explored on foot, bike or horse. The trail features a series of artworks and offers close proximity to heritage classified rivers, majestic valleys, lakes and mountains. Riders cycle along some impressive infrastructure: the long, dark Cheviot Tunnel and the 400 metre long Bonnie Doon Bridge spanning Lake Eildon. Bring your own bike or hire an e-bike or hybrid bike from Yarck Bikes right beside the Great Victorian Rail Trail at the halfway point in Yarck (15 minutes from Yanalinga). Hiking • Gooram Falls Trail (25 minute drive): beautiful place to visit for a swim and picnic during summer or to rug up in winter and enjoy the views of the rock pools and the water cascading over the rocks. • Mount Wombat Lookout Walk (45 minute drive): at 799m, Mt Wombat Lookout offers an excellent 360 degree vista. There are views of Mt Buller, Waranga Basin and Goulburn Weir at Nagambie in the distance. • Cathedral Ranges State Park (45 minute drive): The jagged ridges of the Cathedral Range offer spectacular views and some of the best hiking in the Victoria. Take a gentle walk along the Friends Nature Trail or prepare to tackle the rugged and challenging Razorback Trail or circuit routes. Either way you won't forget the awesome views. • Snobs Creek Falls (50 minute drive) has a spectacular viewing platform that is fixed into the rock face on one side of the falls, jutting out in front of the rushing water. The platform feels unnervingly close to the water, the views from directly adjacent the edge of the top of the falls are equally breathtaking. Admire views stretching way out over the edge of the falls into the Goulburn River valley below, many kilometres into the distance. Fishing The clear streams and tranquil inlets of Lake Eildon and its five feeder rivers are nearby – the Big, Goulburn, Jamieson, Howqua and Delatite Rivers are an angler’s paradise. Trout, perch, redfin and Murray cod are all caught in these waters. Hire a Pontoon boat (no licence needed) from Lakeview Boat Hire at Lake Eildon and go fishing on the lake. Goulburn Valley Fly Fishing Centre offer guided fishing tours and lessons in the area. If you want a guaranteed catch then Buxton Trout & Salmon Farm (45 minute drive) is worth a visit. Golf Courses • Strathbogie Golf Club (40 minutes) • Euroa Golf Club (25 minutes) • Alexandra Golf Course (35 minutes) • Nagambie Golf Course (50 minutes) • Mansfield Golf Club (50 minutes) Tennis The Yanalinga Tennis Court will be back in action later in 2025. In the meantime, you can hire courts here: • Terip Terip Tennis Club (2 minutes down the road): Courts can be hired for $10 per court per hour (cash only). There is a black money box that cash can be put into at the front of the clubhouse. Please message us via Airbnb for the code after you’ve paid (it changes regularly). • Euroa Lawn Tennis Club (25 minutes): big tennis club with lawn courts. Skiing & Snow Play • A trip to Mount Buller for a day of skiing is a 1.5 hour drive away. There is also great hiking at Mount Buller outside the winter months. • Lake Mountain is also a 1.5 hour drive and has a designated snow play areas or tobogganing on one of its three toboggan runs. Cross country skiing is also available. Outside winter there is a single track mountain bike trail from the resort village to Marysville. Wildlife • Mansfield Zoo has a large collection of exotic and native animals on 30 acres of picturesque parkland featuring lovely views across the Delatite Valley to Mt Buller. Has lots of Australian native animals and other exotic animals including Lions. • Platypus and bird watching boat trips with Goulburn Valley Fly Fishing Centre (see above) WINERIES Check websites for opening days/hours. • Fowles, Avenel (40 minutes) • Mitchelton Wines, Nagambie (50 minutes) • Tahbilk Estate, Nagambie (50 minutes) • Sedona Estate, Murrindindi (50 minutes) • Delatite Winery, Mansfield (1 hour) • Ros Ritchie Wines, Mansfield (1 hour) EATING OUT Check opening hours before visiting, many places are closed Monday & Tuesday. Yarck (20 minutes) • Yarck Pub: popular country pub, check website for what’s on (live music most weekends). • Bucks Bakehouse: famous bakery with good coffee and take home meals. • Giddy Goat Café • Dindi Café: store selling Dindi Naturals skincare and candles and café with great coffee. • Koala Cherries: shop and cafe is open from mid-November through until mid-January 9am-5pm. Watch the Packhouse in action from the viewing window. Euroa (25 minutes) • Seven Creeks Hotel: wonderful historic pub with great food and lovely gardens. • Northern Republic: Italian with wood fired pizzas. Also hosts live music regularly. • Northern Rasoi: Indian. • Mely & Me: lovely café with beautiful home made food to take away or eat in. Good coffee. • Nest: good coffee. • The Wine List: fantastic wine bar and craft beers. Yea (30 minutes) • Marmalades of Yea: café and produce store. Not open Wednesdays. • Mint & Jam: café and great coffee. • Yea Peppercorn Hotel: traditional pub bistro. • The Provender Country Bakehouse: fantastic bakery, always busy. Alexandra (30 minutes) • Grant Street Grocer: café and regional produce store including take home meals. • Alexandra Hotel: great pub with a beer garden. Avenel (40 minutes) • Bank Street Wood Fired Pizza & Garden: amazing pizza. • Harvest Home Hotel: beautiful food with French influence in a lovely historic hotel. Strath Creek (45 minutes) • The General Strath Creek: set within a restored barn, The General Strath Creek is a country store and cafe with a considered curation of everyday items. From hot coffee to bags of ice, each item conveys a sense of support and community. Terrific food – sit inside by the fire or out in the garden. Occasionally has live music. Trawool (45 minutes) • The Trawool Estate: several dining options – a la carte at Wild Water or Turbine (bookings needed) or more casual in the Herb Garden (pizzas) or the Granite Bar. Check website for Happy Hour (usually 4-6pm), Steak Night (usually Thursdays) or Fish & Chips Night (usually Wednesday). Nagambie (50 minutes) • Eighteen Sixty: fantastic Italian food and great service. • Zephyrz Pizza & Grill: casual, no-fuss relaxed dining. • Nagambie Brewery and Distillery: casual dining with wood fired cooking. • Mitchelton Winery: has casual and more formal dining options, both excellent. Check out the excellent aboriginal art gallery while you’re there. Mansfield (50 minutes) • The Fields: fun pan-Asian inspired eatery & cocktail bar. • Delatite Hotel Bistro: famous Mansfield pub. • The Produce Store: café and store loaded with local produce, giftware and a range of regional wines. They can also help you create your own picnic basket full of delicious goodies. • Delatite Winery: usually open Wednesday to Sunday beautiful food and setting 10 minutes out of Mansfield. Booking essential. Guest access Guests have exclusive use of the house and surrounding gardens. The shed is not open for guests. Guests may access the paddocks provided dogs are not permitted outside the house block. The house block fence is not completely dog proof so if there is a risk your dog will wander, it must be tied up at all times. Other things to note Please note that the property is 20 minutes from the closest shops (and coffee!) in Yarck. The closest town with full supermarkets are - Euroa (25 mins), Alexandra (30 mins) and Yea (30 mins).
