The space Hotel Dilley is a newly renovated historic hotel that served as a frequent hideout for Bonnie and Clyde as well as mobsters from Chicago, Hotel Dilley was built in 1924 to serve the International-Great Northern Railroad. R.B. Carpenter and 3 of his regular employees Fred Kards, George Andres, and Herman Kettles built the 2 story hotel on Main Street in Dilley, which was known as the Blue Star Highway. They built a wooden bridge from the train tracks to the hotel. Passengers of the Missouri-Pacific train from San Antonio to Laredo took the bridge to stay at the hotel. The hotel has served many storied guests over the years. Due to its close proximity to Mexico, vigilantes and outlaws would stay at the Hotel to hide out from the authorities. Bonnie and Clyde stayed at Hotel Dilley for weeks at a time. Mobsters from Chicago hid out at the hotel and the Hideaway House. The name Dilley was in honor of George M. Dilley, an official of the railroad. Dilley has changed over the years from a railroad town, to a bustling watermelon industry, to an oil field concentration. Only the old hotel and chamber of commerce still stand from the original town. As a cherished historical site, the hotel continues to preserve the legacy of Dilley, Texas, offering a unique blend of historic charm and contemporary comfort. We hope you enjoy your stay at Hotel Dilley.
