ABOUT THE HOUSE Sotherly Manor was built in 1870 in the historic town of Gordonsville, VA, and has been lovingly restored to its original grandeur by the current owner. If you love American history, antiques, and art in a historic setting, this is for you! Picture high ceilings, hardwood floors, original architectural details, a grand entrance hall, and an iconic pub room and you'll have a glimpse of what is in store for your visit! The home features 4 spacious bedrooms all located on the second floor. The master king bedroom includes an en-suite bathroom. There is also a canopy king bedroom, a queen bedroom, and a bedroom with two twins that share the upstairs full bathroom. There are two main reception rooms (living room and drawing room) for your comfort and leisure along with a formal, well-appointed dining room that can accommodate your whole party. The kitchen is well supplied with most modern kitchen needs and adjoins a breakfast room that has a pleasant view of the private gardens. Guests can hide away from the world in the private library, the perfect room to enjoy a good book in a comfortable wing-back chair. If you're looking for modern entertainment or family fun, the TV room features a large, widescreen television with comfy couches to lounge on. Across the hall is the Captain's Game Room with plenty of space for games plus a desk for remote work. Many guests comment on how much they enjoy the pub room, which is a surprise to everyone and many people's favorite gathering spot. Don't miss spending time on the stunning front columned porch, a perfect place for a morning coffee or pre-dinner drink. Or watch the sunrise from the stillness of the brick terrace in the garden. Seasonally you can also enjoy the private swimming pool (open from mid-May to the end of September). THINGS TO DO Private parking is provided on-site. From the front door, you can walk out of the front gates and enjoy a 3-minute stroll to Downtown Gordonsville. This small town offers a variety of boutique shops, bakeries, restaurants, a museum, coffee shops, and a visitor center without the need to drive anywhere. This house is ideally located near many wineries, such as Keswick Winery and Barboursville Vineyards; Castle Hill Cider and Patch Brewing Co.; historic Presidents' homes, such as Jefferson's Monticello, Madison's Montpelier, and Monroe's Highland (all open to the public for tours). The University of Virginia in Charlottesville is 30 minutes away on Route 231, a designated scenic byway through the famous Keswick Hunt country. The Shenandoah National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway along the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains are also a short drive away with incredible panoramic views. Guest access The entire house is yours to use, including the private pool (in season). There is plenty to do in the surrounding area with excellent restaurants that are within walking distance and award-winning wineries that are a 10-minute drive. There is ample, off-street parking for 4+ vehicles depending on size. Other things to note This is a historic home that was not built for accessibility. There are stairs leading to the entrance and all the bedrooms. The house is perfect for adult gatherings but is not suitable for children under the age of 15. This home is not pet-friendly, so pets and emotional support animals must stay home. There is NO SMOKING in the house or on the property.
