A symbolic place of Liguria and tourism in the Mediterranean, Portofino is a delightful, ancient village set in the green promontory. It is characterized by its famous little square and pastel-colored houses abutting the small harbor, which fit perfectly into the landscape and are reflected in the crystal-clear sea water that laps its coastline. A perfect location for strolling among designer boutiques, walking along the pedestrian path of Via Roma that starts from the central square you can admire the famous Brown Castle immersed in the greenery of its enchanting park, and then end up at the Punta del Capo Lighthouse, which towers above the village and from which you can enjoy an unforgettable view of the entire beautiful bay. Portofino's patron saint is St. George; in fact, the evocative, 12th-century church of the same name is dedicated to him and hosts tourists from all over the world, as does the village's main festival, which takes place on April 23 each year with the traditional bonfire in the small square. The surrounding area is an integral part of the Portofino Regional Natural Park, as is the Park Museum located in the garden behind the Marina, an "en plein air" museum displaying contemporary artwork by a number of world-renowned artists. Finally, like any self-respecting seaside resort, the beaches should certainly be mentioned: the most famous and easily accessible is certainly Paraggi, while with a short boat ride it is possible to land in the delightful San Fruttuoso. The accommodation is about an hour's drive from Genoa airport.
