Beach Trail Cottage
Come recharge in our 1887 Victorian cottage—as featured in the New York Times real estate section in November ‘23–with unobstructed views of the stunning Mendocino coastline. Descend from our beautiful home along a gently sloping, short trail leading directly onto the Van Damme State Park beach. Beach Trail Cottage offers a deep front porch, decorative shingles, and high-pitched roof angles that seamlessly blends the old with the new for an unpretentious yet elegant, inviting space. The space The first floor of this two-story cottage features a fully-appointed kitchen, a spacious living room with contemporary yet cozy decor, a marble bathroom, a downstairs bedroom with a Queen bed, and radiant floor heating throughout. The large Carrera marble bathroom gazes out over spectacular ocean and meadow views and offers Aesop bath products, dimmable vanity lights, two spacious sinks, Kohler hardware, and a heated towel rack. Walking into the kitchen, you’ll find a large island with two seats, a Room and Board Ash wood table with six Wishbone dining chairs, a five-burner gas stove, Bosch dishwasher, Wedgwood china plates, and Villeroy and Boch flatware. The second floor is devoted to the spacious master bedroom with a King bed, dedicated work space with LED vanity mirror, and a meditation corner with a jaw-dropping ocean view, perfect for falling asleep to the sound of waves. Note there is not a bathroom on the second floor—those sleeping here will need to walk downstairs. Double porches on the front and side--plus a large garden area--promote privacy and outdoor living. The Cottage is situated on a quiet county lane bordered by two State parks—Van Damme State Beach to the South and Spring Ranch Nature Preserve to the North, a distinctive coastal gem of Mendocino County. The Beach Trail descends 0.19 miles from our front door opening onto to Van Damme Beach, for relaxing beach days, as well access to inland hikes through plentiful Redwoods along the town's namesake: Little River and to the ecological wonder, the Pygmy Forest. A nearby trail runs for one and half miles above the rocky intertidal shelf, through coastal Cypress and ferns, opening onto spectacular meadows and small, year-round waterfalls that cascade down to the sandy beach below. With curious sea lions, spotted harbor seals, hunting osprey, and many tide pools within steps from your door, this trail is an ever-changing journey of discovery. Beach Trail Cottage was the former crown jewel of a local Inn before its private purchase. We welcome you into our home to enjoy it's gifts of peaceful joy and Mendocino beauty. The cottage is ready to support your cozy relaxation inside, providing luxurious robes for morning lounging, and outside with a sandproof beach blanket, beach towels, and four beach chairs. Guest access Guests are welcome to enjoy the entire house, porches, and lawn areas. The owners maintain and use a private office on the property adjacent to the driveway, which is not available to guests. Other things to note This property is also our beloved home and we spend ample time enjoying it's beauty, so you’ll notice a lot of high-end special furnishings that have been hand-selected by the owner in conjunction with Oakland-based Johanna Sprague Design. We ask that you take special care during your stay to preserve the lovely decorations for future guests and ourselves. In our 1887 Victorian home, the stairs to the master bedroom are quite steep. Please hold onto the handrail at all times when ascending and descending the stairs. Due to the stairwell and several fragile furnishings, which may risk harm to kiddos, we do not recommend our home for children. The home is not child-proofed. The owner has a severe allergy to cats and dogs, so unfortunately furry friends are not allowed to join you.
