A light breakfast of croissants & local/homemade preserve is provided (for your first morning only) & left in your room for you to warm ( using the toaster's warming setting ) as & when you wish. However the little kitchenette & fridge let's you prepare all your own heartier breakfast at leisure if you prefer something more substantial to set you up for the day. The Microwave is a combi (so can also be used as a conventional oven or a grill). Salt pepper & some oil, sugar, tea, coffee are all provided. As is some fresh milk in the fridge. Theres a fabulous butchers in the village next to the church. The friendly local village shop & post office stocks lots of everyday essentials ...but if looking for delicious local holiday treats Pengethley garden centre is worth a visit for fresh produce, breads & much more..& handily open on Sundays. The local dark skies ethos means on a clear night you can choose to leave the sky light blind open to look at the stars from your bed. Log burner provides for cosy nights in. In the morning sunshine you'll awake to a plethora of birds singing. Blackbirds thrushes all the usuals and sometimes less expected....(if you happen to hear peacocks in the distance you won't be going mad ...the neighbouring farmer owns peacocks down the valley). ..A pair of buzzards are regulars...& kites fly by. Appropriate outdoor footwear & torch are essential... especially for walking down ( /back in the dark) to Fownhope with it's two village pubs enticing you for supper or your favourite local tipple be it Weston's cider Chase gin or a glass of chilled Three Choirs wine or something more familiar... either enjoyed in the homely New Inn & or historic Greenman or perhaps when venturing further a field...The Moon in Mordiford makes for a lovely summer evening walk through the valley & good old pub supper, as does both pubs in Woolhope but more of a hike and an earlier supper. Nature & wildlife surround you...watch out for deer to the rear of the garden or on the ridge just behind the property. Muntjac often in the garden along with bunnies a plenty. Common Hill is part of the Woolhope Dome with both its geological Silurian interests and rare flora & fauna to explore. Numerous wildlife trust nature reserves to explore just along the ridge & wider dome & there is common land too..both woodland & rare historic meadow land...spot the giant ant hills.....on a wet autumn, early winter the fungi come out in splendor. A great base for adventurous cyclists too. 35 mins to the Malvern hills & interesting town....with Eastnor castle on the way. Explore Arthur's stone, Merbech hill, Snodhill castle & Garway Hill (all free...(take a picnic))). If the Welsh Black Mountains are calling then approx 50 mins you'll be in the rugged wilds. Both Kentchurch or Hellens gardens worth exploring... particularly when Hellens garden festival is on its is an amazing feast for ears eyes & stomach ...make sure you've got all day! With it's location, river woodland, hills, old quarries & lime kilns, old cider apple orchards, wild meadows & traditional farming countryside ....it has something for everyone, artists, writers alike . The very popular village's annual one day Heart of Oak Society procession & event at the end of May is highly recommended, join in or just watch & experience some village way of life & times gone by. I look forward to welcoming you to our super friendly village. Guest access You will be greeted on arrival & provided with a key...(...so you can come & go as you please) Please note there is one large stone step up to the 'Pippins' entrance door. The property is rural, and on the side of a hill so there is a variety of slopping paths, variable & uneven surfaces & steps around to the entrance....these can be slippery especially when wet damp muddy or freezing...taking care & wearing sensible footwear advisable. Once inside the property there is only one step down into the kitchenette (which is then same level as the ensuite shower room). Other things to note The beautiful rural lane leading to the property is uneven & used by walkers, dogs & horses etc, therefore please drive slowly. (If you have a particularly low vehicle you may wish to consider this prior to booking... please contact me as parking elsewhere maybe able to be arranged. 🙂)
