Welcome to Grandma's Place! A charming log home on a mountain knoll overlooking the Knik River Valley. While staying with us, you can enjoy amazing views of Knik Glacier melting into Knik River wih a backdrop of the Chugach Mountains. We are a short 20 minutes from Palmer and 60 minutes from Anchorage. The space Grandma's Place is built on the original 1960 homestead of Grandpa George and Grandma Dolores Steffes. After Grandpa passed away, Grandma decided she wanted a smaller place and had her cabin built. Cottonwood trees from the property were used for the logs, which Grandma herself hued with a drawknife, and all the boards were cut with Grandpa's small wood mill. The cabin is on two levels. The main level has one bedroom with a queen size bed and 3/4 bathroom. The lower level is a daylight basement with a queen size bed and 1/2 bathroom. From the main level you can watch the sun rise from the comfort of your bed through a picture window that overlooks Knik Valley. There is even a view of Knik River from the lower level bedroom window. The kitchen is fully equipped with pots and pans, dinnerware, utensils, and cups and glasses all for your use. The kitchen includes a coffee maker and a Keurig machine, both with complimentary coffee. You will also find a variety of teas and spices. There is a microwave and a full size refrigerator (with a freezer) for you to store your food. We provide breakfast foods for your first morning! We have a large rhubarb patch and you are welcome to get some. The cabin features a wrap-around deck with a barbeque grill and patio table and chairs. Enjoy incredible glacier and northern lights viewing while relaxing in the private outdoors on the deck. In the mornings you can watch the sun rise over the mountains and glacier. You have the possibility to see moose, bear, owls, coyotes, porcupine, lynx, and other animals and birds - but please maintain a safe distance from your wildlife visitors. There is wifi, but minimal cell phone coverage so please be prepared and plan accordingly. We are close by in case of emergency. There is a smart television with DVD player and fire stick to enjoy movies. You will use your own account for Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. We have provided cards, board games, and books (including audio books) for you to use. You can use the spotting scope and binoculars to look for wildlife and birds, and also watch the passing boats, aircraft, and ATV's on the river bed. Grandma's Place is a little piece of heaven!
