A Camping Get-Away that’s not out of the way. You’ll be roughing-it in an outfitters canvas cabin tent. This is a “Dry Camp”, bring your own water, sleeping bags and firewood. Located by Big Lake Recreation Area for swimming & fishing. Also located very nearby are pubs/eateries/laundromat. Enjoy this private, no smoking, off-grid, dry tent camp in the forest. A fire pit is provided. Private camp outhouse. Free Parking. It’s a little slice of Paradise! You’ll never forget the fun you had camping! The space **The Tent** Outfitters Weatherproof Cabin-Tent: You’ll have a rustic yet comfortable wilderness experience. The tents’ large 14'x17' dimensions provide ample space for you and your fellow adventurers to relax and unwind. Do NOT chop fire wood or kindling in the tent. A chopping block is provided. Cozy Furnishings: Inside the tent you'll discover a warm and welcoming atmosphere. One double trundle bed with mattress and a double cot with mattress are provided. No bedding is provided. Bring your sleeping bag! Wood Stove: Adds a rustic charm but also provides essential warmth during the cooler Alaskan nights. You can gather around it for comfort and relaxation. We do not provide firewood. We do ask that you do NOT chop any wood or kindling inside the tent. We provide an outdoor chopping block expressly for this purpose. This is a dry camp. There is a fresh potable water pump just five minutes away at the lake **Exterior Features** Scenic Deck: Step outside the tent onto a scenic deck, where you can take in the breathtaking views of the surrounding forest and the Alaskan wilderness. It's the perfect spot to enjoy your morning coffee or do some star gazing at night. **Amenities** Clean Outhouse: For your convenience, a well-maintained outhouse is located on the property, providing a private and hygienic solution. Sanitation/cleaning is provided by Rent-A-Can. **Location** The Butler Tent at Fernwood is strategically located to give you easy access to the wonders of Big Lake and its surroundings. Whether you're into water-based activities, hiking, or simply relaxing in the wilderness, you'll find nearby access to a boat ramp, a fresh water pump at the boat ramp area, and the town of Big Lake has local eateries and pubs, all within a very short distance. Please note that this is an off-grid experience, providing you with a genuine escape from the trappings of urban life. Bring mosquito repellant with you! The joke is that the Alaskan State Bird is the mosquito because they are so big, and they’re everywhere! Camping in Alaska is an adventure for sure! You’ll love the simple yet enchanting charm of this canvas tent in the heart of the Alaskan wilderness. We do provide a campfire ring pit. Guest access **Parking:** Guests have a dedicated parking area by the office. Down the jeep trail just a short 3-minute walk from your vehicle is the outfitters canvas cabin tent. While parking is not next to the tent, this brief walk adds to the adventure and ensures that the surrounding nature remains undisturbed. This arrangement offers the advantage of keeping the immediate vicinity of the canvas tent free from vehicles, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the tranquility and natural beauty of the Alaskan wilderness. It also provides a designated and secure spot for your vehicle during your stay. Other things to note There are wild animals that have been seen at Fernwood, namely; moose, fox, rabbits, & voles. If you see moose, do not interact or try to take selfies. Moose can be very dangerous. Your camp host has two very big cats that are very friendly and freely roam the property. NO DOGS ALLOWED. Fern Wood Camp is a a work in progress. As time goes on, we will be expanding. So, come stay with us, and come back again!
