The good life in Sogndalstrand in the Bore family's house
Bore-huset
Description
The Bore house was built in 1899 and has three floors. The 3rd floor contains two bedrooms, a living room with a mini kitchen, a bathroom with shower and toilet, a door to the backyard with a dining area, a barbecue & smoke oven and evening sun. A 15-foot boat with electric outboard motor is included and is located at place 47 inside the pier on the east side. The interior is characterized by age and pathos. The floors on the third floor are original painted wooden floors with antique/old furniture, old photographs of people who have lived in the house. The space Bore House - Strandgaten 1 - is located at the entrance gate to the protected building environment and cultural landscape of Sogndalsstrand. Here you can drive all the way to the door. There are several attractions, hiking and swimming opportunities. The nearest swimming area is on the other side of the road, a two-minute walk from Bore House. The building environment belongs to the sailing ship era when fishing, urban agriculture, trade and shipping characterized daily life in what was called Sogndal Ladested and was its own municipality. The number of permanent residents has increased in recent years, but most of the houses are today holiday homes that are used mostly in the summer months. There are good fishing opportunities both in the river and in the sea with Southern Norway's most important spawning ground for Norwegian spring-spawning herring a few kilometers south of Sogndalsstrand. Guest access There is public parking (free) and permission to park right outside the first floor. If you arrive with an electric car, you can charge up to 32A with a type 2 plug (7.2 kw). You don't lock houses in peaceful Sogndalstrand - not even this one. The doors are open. There is a key in the door on the inside so that the guest can lock if you wish. A 15-foot boat with electric outboard motor and oars is included in the rental price and can be used for small trips. You can find it at place 47 inside the jetty. During your stay The apartment on the second floor is used by the landlord. The landlord is often traveling and has an agreement with a neighbor who lives 100 meters north of the house who acts as a host when the landlord is not present. Her phone number and the host's can be found on the bulletin board in the rental unit. If you can't get in touch by phone, just knock on the door and you'll get in touch. The landlord owns a 28-foot flat bottom boat of the classic type with fishing gear on board. If the weather is good, you can rent a boat with an experienced skipper for NOK 450 per hour. There are several nice fishing spots in the nearby area and the area is not far from the legendary Siragrunnen - Southern Norway's most important spawning area for Norwegian spring-spawning herring. There are a large number of fish species here, but fishing here requires a flat sea. Sogndalstrand Havrafting offers tours with a large high-speed RIB for those who want a little more speed and excitement. Other things to note A few hundred meters south (towards the lake) is Sogndalssgtrand Kulturhotell with restaurant and all rights. Many salmon rivers are closed to fishing. The Sokna river (Sokno or Åno) is open for fishing. There are salmon in the river. Fishing licenses can be purchased online. Sogndal Ladested, which is the old name of Sogndalstrand, has a number of hiking trails in the mountains, and many picturesque views. Before Norway was attacked by the German military on April 9, 1940, the so-called Altmark affair took place where British naval vessels entered Jøæssingfjorden, a 20-minute drive from Borehuset, and freed British prisoners of war on board Altmark. Just west of Sogndalstrand is Rekefjord. If you follow the road further you come to the small picturesque Nesvåg where there is an engine museum and all sorts of rarities from past fishing and shipping. If you follow the road further you come to Vatlandsvika where you with a simple 20-minute walk can get down in Vatlandsviga where Shetlands-Larsen with "Vigra" delivered several tons of explosives and weapons intended for ship sabotage. If you drive a little further on the same road you come to a small parking lot where there is a hiking trail to "Hådyret" which is a well-known sailing mark - a high mountain with a painted white spot. From here you can see the Eigerøy lighthouse and the Hidra and Lista lighthouses. The sea eagle has nests nearby, so if they are not killed by the many wind propellers located in the Dalane region, you can use binoculars to take a closer look at this great bird of prey in its right element with the North Sea right out. If you follow this road further you will come out on Egersundsheia and county road 44 further to Egersund. Sogndalstrand is located in Sokndal Municipality where there has been mining in several places since the mid-nineteenth century. Blåfjell mines, the closed mining community Sandbekk and various smallholdings can be observed in many places in the municipality. The largest workplace is Titania, which produces the raw material for titanium white. The white houses in Sogndalstrand have not always been white. The pure white color only came after 1920 when the titanium pigment industry established mining operations at Sandbekk. Today, the same company operates a giant open pit mine at Tellenes. The Knowledge Center in Jøssingfjord was opened in 2024 and tells both the mining history, the fight against emissions in the sea from the mining company, Altmark history and much more. In this center there is a cafe where you have a view over the fjord. The municipal center is located 2 km north of Sogndalstrand and is the hub for trade with two gas stations, ATM, fast charger for electric car, Pizzabakeren, Thai food from "Pad Thai", two grocery stores, paint and hardware store, Pharmacy, Town Hall, coffee bar, Pub etc.
