Description

Solheim is located on a private peninsula in Digermulen. Situated at the end of a road with the ocean clinging to three sides, the house is surrounded by 17 acres of private forest, farmed land, beaches, hilltops and gardens. With mountains tall and small in every direction it is the perfect location for skiing, hiking, cycling and climbing adventures. Set out to sea for world class fishing, kayaking, whale spotting or dive into clear, blue waters in this area of outstanding natural beauty. The space Location Solheim sits on a private peninsula at the edge of Digermulen, surrounded by sea on three sides and sheltered by mountains and gentle ridges that create a calm, protected setting. The seventeen-acre property includes forest paths, open fields, rolling hills, meadows and beaches, offering direct access to skiing, hiking, cycling, climbing, boating, fishing and wildlife experiences year-round. Guests can explore trails, shoreline and hidden coves or simply enjoy quiet reflection outdoors. The clear Arctic light, dramatic weather shifts and long horizons give every moment a sense of calm and grandeur. It is a place to breathe deeply, reconnect with nature, and enjoy meaningful time away from everyday routines. ________________________________________ The Villa The villa is a former farm building thoughtfully revived into a contemporary hideaway, where timber, raw concrete and clean lines create warm and contemporary home. Four mezzanine levels offer fluid living: a double-height lounge with fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen, and a sunlit dining area opening onto a wide terrace with sweeping mountain views. Bedrooms and a refined bathroom anchor the ground floor, while the lower level holds a laundry room, workshop, storage areas and an additional bathroom. Large windows frame shifting light and distant peaks, allowing nature to guide the rhythm inside. The house feels both modern and rooted—an inviting retreat designed for comfort, clarity and slow mornings. ________________________________________ Life at Solheim Life at Solheim unfolds at a slower rhythm, centred on comfort, good food, and the natural surroundings. Guests can enjoy full independence or choose curated food experiences such as a private chef, seasonal ingredient boxes and original recipes designed to elevate home-cooked meals. Outdoors, an open-air bathtub provides a serene spot for late-night stargazing, warm soaks after long hikes, or watching the northern lights dance across the sky. Your hosts — both lifelong mountaineers and food enthusiasts — gladly assist with activity planning, sharing local tips on trails, conditions, secret viewpoints and culinary specialties. The result is a stay that feels personal, relaxed, and deeply memorable. ________________________________________ History Solheim began as a small family farm built in the 1930s, complete with potato fields, livestock and strawberry patches beloved by neighbourhood children. By the time the Grundel family discovered the property in 2018, the original barn had deteriorated dramatically — weather-beaten, leaning, and nearly reclaimed by nature. Instead of demolishing it, they chose to preserve and revive the remaining structure. Working closely with skilled local craftsmen, they rebuilt the house, keeping original walls and details wherever possible. Today, the villa stands as a blend of contemporary comfort and rural legacy, honouring its past while offering a new life shaped by care and craftsmanship. ________________________________________ Amenities Solheim is a self-catered accommodation with everything needed for a comfortable and independent stay. The villa includes a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, workshop and outdoor spaces designed for quiet moments and gatherings alike. The villa contains three bedrooms — two double rooms and one single. Two double daybeds can provide sleeping arrangements for up to four additional guests on short-term stays. The property can also accommodate small events for up to twelve people, such as workshops, meetings, retreats, celebrations or intimate concerts. With its spacious interior and sweeping natural surroundings, Solheim offers both practicality and atmosphere for a wide range of uses. ________________________________________ About Us Solheim is owned by Dag and Synne Grundel, a couple whose backgrounds shape the character of the villa. Dag has spent extended periods living and traveling in warmer regions of the world, bringing a relaxed vibe that complements the rugged Arctic setting. Synne, a local architect with experience abroad, led the renovation with a focus on preserving the historic structure while creating a light-filled, modern home. Together, they have created a space that blends diverse influences with northern traditions. Passionate about mountaineering, food, and local culture, they enjoy sharing trails, adventures, recipes, viewpoints and stories that help guests experience Lofoten in a personal and memorable way. Guest access Getting Here Solheim is easily accessible despite its secluded feel. The nearest town and regional airport, Svolvær, lies about one hour away by car. Evenes (Harstad/Narvik) Airport offers international connections as well as a two-hour scenic drive through fjords and mountains. Renting a car is essential for reaching the peninsula and exploring the region, though guests may also choose to arrive by private boat, docking in calm waters only minutes from the house. A private road leads directly to Solheim and ends at a covered car park, providing sheltered access in all weather conditions. Passed the gateway, the world becomes wonderfully quiet — with sea, forest and mountains wrapping gently around the villa. Other things to note Winter Wonders Winter at Solheim reveals one of the most atmospheric seasons in Lofoten. Digermulen is known for deep snow and stable conditions, making it ideal for ski touring, winter hikes, and quiet evenings spent outdoors. February through April typically brings the best combination of daylight and reliable powder, while earlier winter months offer crisp, clear nights. The northern lights frequently sweep across the peninsula and can be enjoyed from the terrace, the outdoor bathtub, or the warm interior of the villa. Days can be spent exploring snow-covered ridges or simply moving at a slower pace. Winter offers a quiet, spacious retreat well suited for longer stays, festive holidays or slow early-spring escapes in a dramatic Arctic landscape. ________________________________________ Explore Lofoten From Solheim, some of Lofoten’s most iconic landscapes are within easy reach. Trollfjorden, Raftsundet and the remote Risvær islands lie only minutes away by boat, while nearby summits such as Dronningtind, Keiservarden and local ridge lines offer rewarding panoramic hikes. Day trips might take you to Henningsvær’s vibrant harbor, Møysalen National Park, surfing at Delp, or whale watching around Andenes. Food-focused travelers can visit Kvitnes Gård, one of Norway’s most celebrated farm-to-table restaurants. Whether you prefer fishing, kayaking, photography, cycling or simply wandering along empty beaches, the region provides endless ways to explore Lofoten’s raw, majestic and unspoiled nature.
