BARAKA B & B – YARRA GLEN VIC AUSTRALIA … This really really cute little Miners Cottage is worth it’s weight in Gold! A true gem to be found in the heart of Melbourne’s Yarra Valley, the cottage is literally surrounded by flowers in the Spring with an abundance of plants, herbs, veggies, fruit trees all to be enjoyed when in season. If fresh eggs are your thing then you’ll love the friendly bunch of chickens up in the backyard. We’ve even got a bee hive and a worm farm (located up the very back of the property) but they won’t bother you too much. Across the road are cows of all shapes, colours and sizes. You’ll enjoy the magnificent views from the front balcony overlooking paddocks filled with grazing cows as you gaze toward the not so distant hills. In the evening you can hear the local owls hooting, the frogs singing and in summer the crickets and cicadas sing a chorus of tunes as the sun goes down. The sunsets are also glorious from this point of view. If you take a long walk on dusk, you're sure to see many Kangaroos and other native wild-life. Out the back you’ll find a magnificent old Oak tree where you will be generously shaded as you enjoy relaxing on the grass, snoozing & reading or simply sipping on a refreshing G & T before heading to one of the world class local Winery/Restaurants for dinner. Unless of course, cooking is your thing, then you will enjoy the well appointed kitchen at Baraka Cottage where you can easily whip up something yummy for supper with just about everything you need to be found in the cupboards. Just remember to bring the ingredients. Baraka B & B offers a gorgeous guest room with a big comfortable double size bed. The home is open plan living with kitchen, dining, lounge blending into one, and a good sized (large) bathroom with a shower over a big tub. The living areas are open plan with comfy couches and vintage style accessories suited to the home. The old fashioned miners cottage boasts central heating for warmth and ceiling fans for the hot days. There is also is a funky wood heater for added cosines in winter and double doors opening onto the veranda to enjoy the summer breeze on warmer evenings. The bedroom windows are double glazed which should allow for a good sleep in if needed. There is plenty of off road parking, the back yard is fenced and there is a washing machine in the outside laundry. All within walking distance to town with plenty of walking tracks to take you there. Including lovely long hiking tracks through to Steels Creek and further. There is a fantastic park in town wit BBQ facilities and a great place for the kids and dog. You’re within KooWee of the famous Chocolate Joint up the road, close to wineries/cellar door such as, Yering Station, Zonzo’s, Yarrawood, Yaleena Park, Balgownie Estate, Greenstone, Coombe Yarra Valley, the Yarra Glen Race Course, and of the allure of the Yarra Glen Antique Shops where the main street offers coffee shops, carefree window shopping and an ice creamery. You’re around the corner from the Lilydale airport with joy flights, skydiving and helicopter rides. The local hot air ballooning company offers a spectacular way to view the Yarra Valley and if you wanna get your inner hippie out, the St Andrews market isn’t too far should you feel like a nice drive through the Australian bush along Batterman’s track, a bitumen road offering great twists and turns for the sports car amidst hidden wineries and mud brick homes. This is also where the rod roy hill climbs are held if the weekend is right. The area is great for horse riding, cycling, motor bike riding, cruising in your sports car along with four wheel drive tacks in the not too distant hills. If you’re staying over winter you can get to the cross country snow skiing areas in just over an hours drive and be sure to visit the local trout farms while you’re there. You have about three local ‘world renown’ Golf Courses to chose from (2 in Yering and 1 in Healesville), plus the Melbourne Gun Club for clay shooting, the Yarra River (just down the road) is a great place to swim and fish with a fitness track, football oval and plenty of room to run.
