Designed as a private tropical retreat, this heritage-inspired villa blends authentic Kerala architecture, warm earthy interiors, and modern comforts in the heart of Varkala. The space Our home was built using natural materials throughout; traditional lacerite stone, timber frames and clay tiles all make for a rustic, naturally cooling retreat at the centre of Varkala's bustling beach scene. At the heart of Chintamani's philosophy is conservation and being in tune with nature. You will find plenty of ayurvedic plants and trees in our young orchard, composting of waste and the water at the property is sourced from the 100 year old well which was lovingly restored during the construction in 2022. Every brick, stone and tile was carried from the helipad to the property by hand, with the pool being carefully excavated by hand without the use of any machinery. Even our towels are traditional "Kerala thorthe" incredibly practical and highly absorbent cotton towels which are easy to use and easy to clean and dry. Guest access As is common with Varkala cliff side landscape, there is only walking access to this property. No access by car. Cars can be parked on the helipad and Chintamani is a 100 yards walk down a private path. Caretaker will greet you on arrival to assist with luggage. Guests have access to all parts of the home, pool and gardens. You will also have complete privacy while at the property, unlike other properties in the area our caretaker does not live on site, but will be available on request for all your needs (more info provided under interaction with guests). Pool will be unavailable during servicing, this is usually Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays between the hours of 10 am - 12 noon. Other things to note Pool Pool depth is 1.2m throughout. Non Swimmers and small children should not access the pool. Pool is accessed at your own risk. Please be safe. Room access Please be aware bedroom 2 can only be accessed via Bedroom 1, they are interconnected. Both can be accessed from the outside and you have options on whether you use the same shower room or an outside shower room. This means the property is more suited for families or close friends.
