Description

Nestled on a quiet dirt road in the woods of Norway Maine sits Frost Hill Schoolhouse. Formerly a one room schoolhouse in use until the 1930s. Come enjoy the peace & solitude of Maine’s lakes & mountains region while staying in a piece of Maine’s history. Although small, the house is filled with antiques collected around New England & is carefully curated with a charming & colorful Scandinavian inspired design. Just minutes away from Norway lake, 30 minutes to Sebago Lake & an hour to Portland. The space Frost Hill Schoolhouse is a 500sqft schoolhouse that was built sometime in the early 1800s. The school was closed in 1937 and has since been used as a residence/summer residence, until now! We’re honored to steward this small piece of Maine history and are offering stays to others to help fund the restoration and preservation of the property. That being said - she is an old house- filled with old things! She is rustic yet charming, but definitely not super fancy! Great for old house lovers! The schoolhouse is split up into 3 spaces, an open living/dining/kitchen area, a small bedroom and a bathroom. The living room has a sleeper sofa and the bedroom has a full size bed. The tub is a small 48” clawfoot tub/shower combo. Best suited for 1-2 people, a small family or some close friends! The schoolhouse sits on a little over an acre of land. There is a picnic table and fire pit in the back yard as well as a full side yard. WINTER GUESTS: The cabin can get cold so please pack accordingly- warm clothes, slippers, hats etc! The heat pump will be running for you but feel free to adjust temp (it will take breaks to defrost occasionally). There is a space heater next to the lockers and the wood stove for additional heat. Firewood is supplied. SKIERS/SNOWBOARDERS: 45 minutes to Sunday River 40 minutes to Lost Valley 30 minutes to Shawnee Peak 30 minutes to Mt Abram 1.25 hours to Black Mountain of Maine 2 hours to Sugarloaf & Saddleback Guest access The entire house & property is yours to roam! The property extends into the woods a bit but not too much so make sure you aren’t going too far! There are some marked trees that show where the property ends. Other things to note In the winter, a 4wd vehicle is recommended. The road before ours has a steep hill that could be hard to get up when icy. The road the schoolhouse is on is dirt and can be quite slippery when wet from snow. We do our best to keep the driveway cleared and a path to the door. If snow falls during your stay there’s a shovel near the wood pile to the left of the cabin if needed. We can also arrange to snow blow the driveway during your stay upon request.
