Tranquil, stream side, cosy retreat

Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. The space The Old Bakery is nestled in the bottom of a valley in Cranham, Gloucestershire. It dates back to the 17th century and still retains many of its beautiful original features including the bread oven and inglenook fireplace. The Painswick stream runs right past the house giving a really magical atmosphere. We are in an area of outstanding natural beauty and have many rare birds who visit the garden as well as incredible walks from your doorstep with three world class pubs within walking distance. We are approx 20 minutes from Cheltenham Races and the literary and jazz festivals, 12 minutes from the famous Stroud farmers market and 5 minutes drive from the Cranham Cheese Rolling race. Guest access The garden which is opposite the old bakery, up the stairs that run next to the mill race at the front of the property is where your outside dining area sits. The garden at the front of the mill house is private but you are free to walk through there to access the footpath. Other things to note The property comprises of an open plan kitchen, dining and living room. Upstairs there is a large master bedroom with a super-king sized bed, a second bedroom with a king sized bed and the third cosy nook with a standard double. This is a C17th cottage so the beam in the master bedroom is low so if you are tall you will need to mind your head as you navigate the space. The mill race is still active and therefore running water can be heard from the bedrooms. Please be advised small children will need to take care and be supervised near the fast flowing water. Children will also need supervision upstairs because the windows open out on to the stream. KITCHEN The kitchen is equipped with all the necessary pots/pans/utensils and crockey that you will need during your stay. We will provide tea, coffee, sugar, salt, pepper and oil. We also provide tea towels, washing up liquid and brush, sponge for surface and cleaning spray. LIVING ROOM We will provide you with kindling, newspaper, fire starters, matches and a full log basket. If you need more wood during your stay we can assist you. BATHROOM The shower is over the Victorian cast iron bath therefore head height in the shower is low. If you are tall, having a bath may be a more favourable option. The hot water runs on an immersion heater so requires a half hour to warm up again once a full bath has been run. When running the bath we advise using only the hot tap. Please ensure the plastic shower curtain remains inside the bath when showering to avoid flooding. We will provide a towel for each guest and a hand towel for the bathroom.
