Our wonderful family homestay is located in the indigenous village of Turuku, a 20 minute walk from the charming dowtown of Cotacachi. Our guests can practice their Spanish, and experience community life in a small Ecuadorian village enjoying their time close in the little rural town of Cotacachi. Brand new rooms in the second floor with comfortable beds and a shared bathroom with a hot shower that were just built in 2015. Rooms are also available without beds for sleeping on bedrolls with sleeping bags for bigger groups with up to 30 people. Comfortable hammocks surrounded by a beautiful garden are available for you to relax . Guests have access to all the house: kitchen, living room with television and a PC, a Wifi-hotspot, gardens and parking lote. We are a big familiy consisting of two parents, our four children and the grandparents living by nearby. In a warm and accomodating family atmosphere, we would love to help you practice your Spanish, learn about cooking typical Ecuadorian food and make of your time with us a wonderful experience full of local indigenous traditions. Turuku is a quiet little indigenous village about a 20-minute walk outside of the downtown Cotacachi. Cotacachi is located at the feet of Cotacachi volcano about 4939 meters of altitud and about 100 km north of Quito. This town is known for its incredible leather-workand handicrafts, it`s located 10min away from a beautiful crater lake named Laguna de Cuicocha and it is surrounded by intense and colourful cultural life consisting of a mix of indigenous, mestizo and colonial traditions. Cotacachi is easy to reach by a 2 h bus-drive from Quito to Otavalo and a 30 min bus drive from Otavalo to Cotacachi. If you are coming from the north (Colombia/Tulcán/Ibarra), you can take a bus to Cotacachi from the central bus terminal in Ibarra! From the town center or the bus terminal of Cotacachi, our village is accessible by a short taxi ride (5min), leaving guests right at our doorstep (1,50$). Tell the taxi driver to give you a ride to "LA CAPILLA DE TURUKU"! (Turuku´s Little Chapel). Our home is across the chapel. Alternatively, you can take a taxi from Otavalo to Turuku for about 5$. If you need it, we offer transportation from the airport of Quito or from the city of Quito to Cotacachi and to our home. Please feel free to ask us! As we are located at the feet of Cotacachi volcano and just 30-45 minutes away from Imbabura volcano and the Mojanda lakes we are in perfect environment for all kind of mountain experciences. Each of the mountains counts with numerous trails, which in case of Mountain Cotacachi start right at our doorstep. The range goes from easy 1-2 hour walks through the traditional mountain villages, half-day hikes through beautiful valleys and the stunning Páramo-landscapes to two-day treks up the peaks. We are the perfect basecamp for every kind of hiking and acclimatisation experience and can help you with guided tours in English language!
