Authentic DDR event space

I'm glad you're interested in the VEB Kantine! This classic DDR event space was designed and outfitted specifically for large groups of people and extraordinary events. Your birthday, wedding, company event, or artistic meetup is welcome here! The location is directly on the river Mulde with ample parking and tenting space around the house. It is easily reachable by train (1 hour from Leipzig + 10 minutes walking) yet provides a private and beautiful environment for your special weekend. The space The VEB Kantine is a spacious, wonderfully comfortable building that inspires everyone who walks inside. It is filled with sunlight and boasts beautiful views out of every window. Don't let the drab grey exterior fool you! This building has charm and character that will make you nostalgic for the DDR. The house has been empty for over 10 years and we are still working to clean, repair, and outfit everything. First we're offering for events of 50 people, but in the future 200 people will also be possible. Check back regularly for updated photos and please ask about your event. We will be ready soon! The house was built to be the social area of a large adjacent factory complex. It contained the kitchen and lunchroom to feed the hundreds of employees, served to host events for the management, and housed various offices including the "big boss" office, which still stands exactly as it was left when the factory closed! The building has two huge event rooms (115 sq meters each) with a view onto the river Mulde, and numerous other large rooms (30-40 sq meters) to host all of your workshops, get togethers, and meetings. An additional 15 bedrooms, including three master suites with their own toilet and shower, provide ample space for guests to sleepover. Every room is flooded with natural light and has a spectacular view of the surrounding nature, and even the castle Mildenstein. A large kitchen, directly adjasent to the event room, provides ample space to cater your guests with delicous meals, with a spacious 55sqm atrium which connects all rooms on the floor. Between the kitchen and atrium is a large catering window/bar to provide an uninterrupted flow of drinks and snacks to the guests. The main staircase is spacious and inspires spontaneous conversations. It continues from the top floor all the way into the basement, which is a labarynth of large interconnected rooms, perfect for art installations and multiple DJs. The basement is remarkably clean, has two staircase exits, and small ventilation windows in nearly every room. The outdoor area is spacious and provides ample space for caravans, tents, and outdoor installations. There is direct access to the river (yes, you can swim!) and a large industrial buffer zone before the residential housing. There is even a small soccer field! The countryside around the Kantine offers ample opportunities for outdoor sports including cycling, kayaking, bouldering, hiking, and cross country skiing. There is a supermarket just 5 minutes walk away, and the town has multiple resaurants, cafes, and even a hospital. Leisnig is 3000 years old and definitely worth an afternoon stroll (just 12 minutes walk from the Kantine). It is filled with gorgeous 17th century architecture and the castle "Mildenstein" which is now a museam. Your guests will be pleasantly amused by this picturesque little town, and having this secondary destination can be a welcome side-quest during a weekend event. Guest access You may notice from the photos that the space doesn't look quite ready... you are right! We are currently cleaning, restoring, and repairing. But please ask us about your event! There's a good chance that we'll be ready by then!
