The Captain's Home: Art and History on the Coast of Maine
Description
1862. Step back in time into Capt. Robert Hichborn's home, an elegant and comfortable 163 year old respite from your travels along the coast of Maine. Centrally located, this historic gem is within an hour to everywhere; from Camden to Rockport, Belfast to Bar Harbor, Augusta to Bangor, and Castine to Deer Isle, you are in the center! This lovingly cared for home boasts original wide pumpkin pine flooring, 10 foot ceilings, local art, board games, good feels, and very comfy beds and bedding. The space The Captain's Home is a 163 year old Victorian built for Capt. Robert Hichborn in 1862. The house has a parlor/game room stocked with board games, a comfy living room with ROKU TV and Sofa Sleeper, and a dining room that can seat eight (ask for extra chairs). All of the artwork is original and done by artists within an hour radius. There is a care taker, Tiffany, who lives in an apartment above the kitchen with her entrance door in the dining room., which means she does enter the house. You will likely not see her unless you need her! In the summer, Amanda is often on premises with her Pitbulls, Mike and Helen. She has a studio on the side of the home. Expect to see the puppers outside playing and frolicking! The stairs to the second floor where two of the bedrooms are located, are steep. The twin bedroom is directly in front of your bathroom; it is the hallway to the bathroom. The gardens are coming along nicely. Please do not let children or pets play in gardens. We are outside working on them often. There is a fantastic porch to sit on at night to watch the stars and share stories from your day. The home has a King and a Queen on the second floor along with a Single bed, a Queen bed room connected to a bathroom with a clawfoot tub on the first floor, and a Queen sofa bed. Plenty of parking! Guest access Guests have access to the entire home except for the care taker's quarters, the studio off the kitchen, and the basement. When I am in town, I am also around the house with my puppers. You will see us flitting around but we will not go into your areas unless you invite Mike or Helen up (and everyone who meets them seems to)! If you are here longer than four nights, you will have access to the laundry. Other things to note Sometimes Amanda is on premises in her studio apartment on the side of the house with her Chonkasaurus Couch Potato of a Pit Bull, Mike and his pet pittie Helen. Expect to see them outside frolicking about! All of the art in the home are original works by local Maine artists. Please ask if interested in any of the pieces or the artists. The stairs to the second floor (bedrooms and full bath with shower) are steep w a low bannister. The house is old. It creaks; the floors can pop up or have an edge; there is a delicious smell of old and new. It is precisely what makes this home so unique. The house is on Septic and has no disposal. This means nothing other than toilet paper and human waste and water down drains.
