It is a perfect place for a quiet get-away for 2 or wonderful alternative to a hotel stay. The cottage was built totally by hand, by the owner, with trees cut from the property. Best for: -romantic get-away -for 1 or 2 people-sorry NOT for visitors, UNLESS discussed /short time probably ok -must be 25 years old (county requirement) -corporate stay in the Lexington area -snowbirds in transit or scoping the area -visiting family in the area, & prefer your privacy -NO ROOM FOR BOAT TRAILER Other things to note Subject: Cottage information 10 19 25 RESTAURANTS/SHOPPING INFORMATION FOR RENTERS-TRAFFIC IDEAS If you are arriving from I-20 and Highway 378 you will pass through the town of Lexington. There are numerous grocery stores, restaurants and shops in this area. Walmart will be on your right about 5 miles after the turn. ***YOU MAY ALSO EXIT AT Longs Pond Rd. and miss all of the Lexington traffic and lights. I strongly suggest that-especially if you are arriving during the 5:00 rush hour or after 4:00 on Fri. Corly Mill from I-20 and Old Cherokee is good, but again it depends on the time of day . There there are schools on both roads.. If you arriving from the west side of I-20, you will exit at the 44 truck stop. When you get to the intersection of Priceville Rd. and Hwy. 1, turn left and less than 1 mile on the left is Taylor’s Produce on the right, IGA. Or, exit at Longs Pond and will go right by Publix. ** BOAT RENTAL You can rent a boat for a day during the week for $200.00 it's right near our cove. LAZY WAVES PONTOON RENTALS It's pricey ,and much more , on the weekend, but seems to be the best price.-compare it to South Shore Marina, not too far away on Highway 378.. ***ICEHOUSE AMPITHEATER in Lexington is WONDERFUL! They have great bands in the spring and summer on Thurs. nights that are free. Many others are on other nights and may cost. Check their web page. REILLY'S IRISH PUB is on Main Street and is excellent. They have draft beer. They don't accept reservations either, and seating is first come first serve. ***TRAVINIA'S is across from Target, close to 378 and Hwy 20. It’s good and a national chain. **Murphys is about 4 miles away and has great burgers etc. It's very popular and we enjoy it. **MAMA RABBIT'S and in the same area as Travinia's. It's absolutely delicious .You may need to go early, or late to not have to wait. It is across from TARGET. The take out meals are wonderful! *** ANTAI is Asian and in the same area with Travinia’s. (opposite side) It’s also excellent. **TWISTED ROOT is a bar with a delicious and huge hamburger! It's almost at the junction of 378 and Hwy 1 when going into Lexington, on the left. **HUDSON'S BARBECUE As you turn onto 378 from I-20 east direction, is a very good barbecue place. It’s about 25 minutes from our house, but a good place to pick up as you are coming in. **PRICE'S BARBECUE is only about 2 miles from our house that is open some weekends. You’ll see it on the left on Shore Rd. and can see if it is open. It is very good. They have a buffet on Sunday. **SHEALEYS BARBECUE If you like barbecue, in Batesburg, is your place. It's one of the "you're miserable when you leave places", but just delicious. it's about 20 minutes away. You can even ask for the pully bone if you get fried chicken. IT IS CLOSED ON WED. If you're a shopper, then go to the ATTIC for nice items. **EL PASO-is on the lake, past Murphy’s, on the right. It’s very small but has great food. ** South Shore Grocery and Marina is before El Paso and on the lake. We haven’t been in a while, but used to like it. EL JIMADOR Not far from the cottage (1O min. or so) . Go to Publix, turn right, at the lights turn left and it will be on your left within a ½ mile or more. It is very good! FLIGHT DECK is In Flight Deck Shopping Center corner of 378 and Hwy 1 It’s very casual and good. There are some new restaurants in the Flight Deck shopping center, which we have not tried. ***YUMMIE CREATIONS is delicious for lunch and you can pick up, if ordered by 2:00 , for ahead of time your evening meal. They are only open during the week until Thursday lunch. LIBBYS is very good on East Main St. and close to the courthouse. Good Sandwich and salad type place-lunch & dinner. I prefer for lunch. GOODFELLAS is a restaurant, on the left, past the light at Charter Oak and 378,. It is a bar/restaurant type place and casual. we used to go and it was good, but we haven’t in a good while. PUBLIX IS ABOUT 8 MILES and Food Lion is in Lexington about 3 miles past Publix . If you aren’t familiar with Publix, it’s great (pricey)They are on your route that you will be driving and about 7/8 miles from the cottage. ALDI'S- I lOVE Aldi's!! It's very inexpensive and good. If you aren't familiar with it, check it out. It's a bit far, but if coming from I-20 on 378, you should stop there. MARCO'S PIZZA delivers-get a coupon online. **TAYLORS PRODUCE for fresh veggies etc. Go across Hwy 378 from the stations to Priceville Rd. In about 3 miles, turn right at the light, and about a mile down on the left is good . An IGA grocery store is across from Taylors. **A great Produce stand is at the corner of Calks Ferry and Highway one. Their produce comes from Rawls Farms, close by. ***PRIVATE PROPERTY is past Libby's Main St. in Lexington, on the left also. It's excellent and you need to get a reservation way in advance.. You can also eat outside. . ***OLD MILL BREW PUB is so so, but it’s great to walk the 1.3 mile path that goes right by it. It’s new and quite popular. I enjoy it. You can also park past the Brew pub, in order to do the walk. ** Hazelwood Brewing Company has music and is enjoyable. They have food. It’s right, where you would park if you’re doing the walk. If you are here and have time for day trips, many people enjoy going to Aiken, ( 45 /50 minutes, )Greenville ( 1 1/2 hour away). The Congaree National Park is wonderful and an hour away. The Vista area in Columbia (35/40 minutes) is nice for eating and the Riverwalk. Be sure to plan as not to be in 5:00 traffic. I LOVE the riverwalk! There is also a nice free, short walk to the right, as if driving into the Riverbanks zoo. SAVAGE is a brewery in the area. Thai restaurant on the left Main Street. Very pricey, but we heard good. New steak place, on the right Main Street. again, people say it’s good, but very pricey. WALKING in OUR AREA If you would like to walk in the area, it's safe and fine. In the summer until you get past the boat ramp, it's not always safe, as the boat trailers love to take up most of the road. After the boat ramp, it's great. I walk , left out of the driveway, and go down until the first road on the right, Garden Grove, turn right and it is circular back to Shull Island Rd. You may cross over the road there and go to Bombing Range (Another side street off of Bombing Range), or walk to the end of the Island. 2 miles there. The road after Garden Grove, Old Orchard is another circular road. IF you fight the boat traffic and BE CAREFUL, turn left past it, that is a nice, peaceful walk. . To the right, is not as nice, as you must worry about boat traffic. There is a lot of construction going on also. Until Garden Grove, very close, you need to be careful. For Neighborhoods, you can drive about a mile and walk Pintail Point, or Martin's Crossing. WALK THE DAM If I'm in town running errands, I enjoy walking the dam. It's about a 45 minute walk and nice. Go to Highway 6 and park right before the dam, or if you miss the turn, you can park on the other side. They may charge, I'm not sure, but our side does not, as there is a different spot for walkers and swimmers. Saluda Shoals is delightful and shady. There is a fee, I think it's $5.00 Harbison State Park is also nice. If you don’t mind the hour drive, the Congaree is super nice.
