Coppins Cove, Marina Beach, South Africa
Seaside, Marina Beach
Description
Marina beach is beautiful, it's clean and has stunning views. There is a great pub/ restaurant located on the beach at Marina Beach where you can go for a meal, or just for a drink, a great place for sundowners or to watch the rugby. Marina Beach is located just south of Margate, between the villages of San Lameer and Southbroom on the Hibiscus Coast in South Africa, an easy hour and a half’s drive from Durban and the King Shaka International Airport. The accommodation has direct access to Marina Beach, a long sandy beach with its own tidal pool and a well-deserved blue flag status which means that it meets a number of strict criteria regarding its safety, cleanness, amenities, ecological value, and educational potential. Being awarded Blue Flag status sets Marina Beach leagues ahead as a really fabulous beach. The water is warm, thanks to its being fed by the Indian Ocean, and the waves are great for swimming, surfing, body-boarding, stand-up paddling, skimboarding and snorkeling. It is protected by shark nets and lifeguards. The wide stretches of sandy shores are inviting for beach games, tanning and long walks. Marina Beach is part of the Trafalgar Marine Reserve. The marine life is intriguing to see in its natural habitat, so visitors are urged to remember their goggles and snorkel and to take a peek under the surface of the blue. There are fossil beds here that are believed to be some 90 million years old, and these offer plenty to see underwater. Nearby there are beautiful coastal nature trails and you can also book a horse riding session along the beach through Selsdon Park Estate close by. Mpenjati Nature Reserve nearby is a fabulous place to explore on foot. The Ipithi Trail is 1.2 km long and takes hikers along the south bank of the river. From this trail, many of the birds can be spotted, along with duikers and vervet monkeys. The Yengele Trail is slightly longer, at 1.8 kilometers, and winds through the massive coastal dune forests. There are a number of lookout platforms along both of these trails to provide optimal views of the stunning surroundings. Apart from the great trails, it is a beautiful place to have a picnic at the BBQ facilities along the river near the river mouth. For the more daring there is South Africa's only official nudist beach (250m) located between Trafalga and Mpenjati Nature Reserve.
