Casa Oceanside is a cute little concrete beach bungalow about 80 meters from the sand. The propery is a 900 sqm tropical garden with a variety of wildlife, that can be seen daily. The waves that break in front of our house are perfect for beginners. Casa „Oceanside“ was designed with love and function in mind. Cool and open during the hot summer months, but dry and cozy once the rain hits. The two storied concrete bungalow, perfectly tucked away in a lush tropical two acre garden teeming with wildlife can be, whatever you want it to be: A „surfer´s private refuge“, a „birdwatcher´s colorful paradise“, a „quiet girlie getaway“, a „honeymooner´s romantic hideout“ or a „wildlife enthusiast´s research base“. The house sleeps two persons comfortable (kingsize bed), or three at the most (additional sofa). Steps away from Playa Sombrero in the Matapalo Area, Casa „Oceanside“ offers everything you need for a lifetime experience along the jungles of the the prestine Osa Peninsula. Being so far off the grid, we work with solar power around here. Our panels provide enough energy to power the lights, a refrigerator to keep your drinks cool and your veggies fresh, your laptop and also your Smartphone. Our fresh water source is a deep well. The water gets pumped via a 12v solar pump into the tank ontop of a tower and flows back by gravity into the house. Our water has been tested by a labratory in New York and is 100% drinkable and good for cooking. The fully equipped kitchen comes with all amenities, pots, pans, cuttlery and towels, a 4 range gas-stove, a Daywoo fridge with freezing compartement and a breakfast countertop for 2 persons. A storage room where you will keep all your valuables such as credit cards, passports, cash money or cameras/phones. A spacious living area with two sofas borders the office space with a big office table, bookshelf with plenty of reading material in german, spanish and english and a reading sofa/day bed combo, that can easily serve as a third bed. The bathroom provides towels, hot water shower, hot water sink and a toilet \ with slate floor. Upstairs you will find the masterbedroom with a huge kingsize bed and a super comfy mattress. A tight mashed mosquito net will help to keep insects out during the wet months (July to December). From January until June, you could easily sleep without the net. The Masterbedroom is surrounded by terraces. The roofs of the bathroom and the office also serve as hangout platforms. A big sundeck with two hammocks and wooden chairs plus table are perfect for that sundown cocktail while you watch howler monkeys up close, crazy squirrel monkeys swiftly leaping great distances from branch to branch, pairs of Scarlett Macaws flying overhead and hummingbirds buzzing close to your head. If you are lucky you will see an anteater strolling through the garden or a coati (pizote) checking for something to eat in the tropical bush. From the office roof, you can climb onto the roof of the bedroom via a comfortable ladder and gaze at the starts at night. During the summer months it is highly recommendable to throw some pillows up onto the roof and lie there for hours with a cool drink in hand, watching shooting stars, or checking the always visible Orion constellation, the beautiful Pleiades or the southern Zodiac signs. Nothing short of miraculous. „National Geographic“ once described the Osa Peninsula as „one of the world´s biologically most intense places on earth.“ Once here, you will quickly find out why. A hobby-birdwatcher from Minnesota recently counted 137 different species of birds on our property alone. Add the Otters, playing in our clear water river, that runs through the property (May through December only), the occasional Sloth, Armadillos, Caimans, Turtles, Toucans, Aracaris, Monkeys, Anteaters, Iguanas or the Sea Turtles, Pelicans, Dolphins and Whales and you will get an idea. As for activities, they are almost too numerous to mention: Perfect Longboard- and easy learning waves for surfing, roll in right infront of the house. For the more experienced surfer, (almost) world class waves can be found in the close vicinity. Also: sea kayaking, SUP paddling, swimming, snorkeling, sport fishing and boat trips are all possible. We can assist you with your trip into the Corcovado National Park too. Tidepools are waiting a 10 minute walk down the beach. Treeclimbing, jungle hikes, waterfall repelling, horseback riding, bird watching, yoga classes, massages, or just long walks along the wild and empty beaches without ever meeting another soul will make your stay a remarkable memory. Bring sandals, the sand gets very hot. During your stay, there will be property managment nearby. If you have questions, just ask. Rental Car assitance, medical attention, shopping in Puerto Jimenez, trip booking etc... We will be more than happy to help. Pura Vida Michelle & Eddy Our Guests are authorized to access all areas at all times. When our house is rented, we move to a small accomodation nearby, in walking distance to the house. We are around and can be approached in cases of emergency or if our guests need something or have a question. But at the same time, we make sure, that our guests do not get disturbed and that they are able to enjoy total privacy. Playa Sombrero, Carbonera and Cabo Matapalo is a small stretch of isolated and lonely beaches with a string of houses, tucked away in the bushes. Nice people and friendly neighbors that know each other for years, look out for one another and help each other. Getting around here is mostly by private car or by foot along the beach. A rental car is not a must, but does make things easier. There are rental cars agencies in Puerto Jimenez like Alamo Rent a car. Plus there are always Taxis available in Puerto Jimenez. A one-way trip from PJ to our house is about $40. Here we live off-the-grid and internet access is limited and slow. The signal is weak. We suggest to buy a local SIM Card directly at the beggage claim inside the airport upon arrival. There is an ICE Counter, wher you can buy a "Kolbi" Pre-Paid Card for 4-6 Dollars, which you can charge with 20 or 50 Dollars. That will enable you to access the Costa Rican Network and also get a signal in the house. But patience is key. Always.
