The streams of many Croatian rivers continue beneath the Adriatic sea and spring up very close to the surface on the island of Rab. Rab has had a history of tourism ever since the late 19th century, when it became a touristic destination alongside Opatija. Rab is the island with the most sandy beaches in Croatia, and it is a perfect for families with small children who are seeking their own little oasis. For all of the history lovers, definitely check out the ruins of the old Greek military fortress on the hill of St. Damian in Barbat. Explore the Old Town Rab with it's many narrow streets and traditional buildings - it will surely leave you breathless. Enjoy the local cuisine in one of the restaurants on the island - we definitely recommend trying some traditional seafood. Park-forest Komrcar is great for a walk during a hot summer day, as the tall trees provide the much needed shade. If you own a boat, or book a tour, you can visit the 'Goli otok', which was one of the oldest Yugoslavian prisons.
