Description

Beautiful Family Cottage at dead end, private road (river is your backyard). The Iron Dale river is very clean and swim-able with stationed dock and ladder, and a kayak/canoe and paddle boat launch! Fishing is one right after another! Bright and airy cottage with beautiful air flow! There is a back deck to enjoy sitting, reading, sunning, BBQ'ing and eating on while watching the abundance of wild life on the river. Feeding the chipmunks and squirrels from your hand is a bonus! A must enjoy The space Nestled in Highlands East, it is surrounded by ATV trails and Lakes to take boats to (3 min drive). Rustic enough that it feels like a cottage, but with a coffee maker, running water (river water) and indoor plumbing you'll feel like you're home. We provide linens and towels, kitchen basics, salt and pepper, oil for cooking-- BYO groceries. There is NO internet (as of yet, we are looking in to it)... TBA. At times there are fire bans on-- very important to note there are no camp fires during this time. On the Iron Dale river, it provides the best swimming, fishing, kayaking, paddle boating and canoe you’ll ever have! Good privacy, on a quiet cottage road. Great neighbours that allot all the privacy in the world (or a friendly hello). The property itself has a grass/sand mix-- sandy areas great for kids to play in! The water at the secured/stationary (non floating) dock is deep enough for shallow diving and the best canon balls! There is a ladder for easy exit. The bottom of the river is sandy with river rock and the occasional branch/tree for standing on. It is not uncommon to see rock bass, sunfish, smallmouth bass, trout and minnows (not limited to) swimming around while you float in the beautiful cooling water... 3 bedrooms inside with a total of 5 beds. 1 queen in the main bedroom on the main floor, 2 single beds, one single day bed with pull out single bed in one large room upstairs and one queen in the bedroom upstairs. Note: there is a trailer on site, not being included in the renting of the cottage (but WILL be empty and locked when you stay there). The fire pit is awesome (please purchase your own wood). Please have a bucket of water handy in case, and, respect all fire laws, searching for the fire pit usage at Hastings County for the time of your stay (complete fire band, night burning only)-- Please respect these laws, we don't want trouble with our neighbours and or township. Fire department has been called before on people who don’t respect laws, hefty fines are attached (owner not responsible). Large back deck (overlooking water) with BBQ and seating for lounging, reading, sunning and or eating. Small deck at front for sitting and or whatever you may wish ( I use it to escape my family sometimes!). The space Gooderham is an easy place to escape the busy life of the city and enjoy the tranquility and fun that can be found around here and all around us year round. There is access to many multi-use trails for which you can enjoy hiking, biking, off-road motorcycling, ATVing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing or snowshoeing, the choice is yours. Be prepared with camera in hand as you are sure to stumble across something beautiful, be it a bubbling brook, an unusual but pretty flower to tree, a serene place to relax or one of the many furry critters that call Gooderham home. With thirteen lakes and the Irondale River, you can take the opportunity to canoe, kayak, swim, fish, jet-ski or go boating. Watching the quiet river move slowly while you enjoy your morning cup of coffee, you are likely to hear the soothing sound of a loon calling or the slapping tail of a frightened beaver. Within minutes of great ATV/Snowmobile trails--- all trails are road linked (and can ride on roads). Please search Hastings county for trail passes and conditions. ATV’s are NOT included in your stay with us. l TV’s in every room, hundreds of movies in case of rain and or bored children! A wii and Xbox and games are included. Best yet are some kids fact books and some fiction and non fiction to choose from! Without wifi you might be able to encourage children/teens to get outside, enjoy the water or-- read! :) A do-able drive from GTA (an hour to a few), the Haliburton Highlands/ Hastings County is a hidden gem of the Canadian Shield! With more than 600 lakes in the region, water enthusiasts interested in boating, canoeing, kayaking, and – of course – fishing will have found their paradise. Fish, boat and swim from our dock, or travel a few minutes to nearby lakes with launches. Geocaching An activity that appeals to both the young and the young at heart, learn about geocaching and the Geocaching Capital of Canada, treasure hunting with a high tech twist. Fishing Whether you are fishing on the ice, boat or shore depends on the local conditions during the open/closed season for a particular species. You can view or download a copy of the Ontario Fishing Guide Summary. Highlands East is in Zone 15. You can fish from the dock and catch one right after another most times-- kids enjoy this the most! Mineral Collecting Visit the Mineral Collecting page for information on mineral collecting sites in Highlands East and rare mineral tours. Guest access Cottage is there, to privately enjoy-- trailer is locked and empty. Owners like to meet and greet for questions and answers, but quickly exit stage left so you can start your own vacation. only the canoe and peddle boat are for guest usage. you can rent kayaks near by.. there is NO provision of fishing boat, kayaks and or atvs Other things to note has had pets in it before (in case of allergies). never allow smoking inside. No internet, but cellular service is excellent and owners use hot spot when there (if internet is needed) When the power goes out there is NO running water. Toilet can be used with river water using to flush-- out house on site as well. Nobody can predict the weather; mother nature, although beautiful can be moody! :)
