Individual Maya style cottages of hand cut stone & wood with palm-thatched-roofs set in a 12 acre orchard minutes from the heart of the historic, waterfront, walled city of Campeche, the state capital and UNESCO designated World Heritage site. Wake to the sound of song birds drawn to the bounty of the fruit trees as you walk the few steps outside on the stone path to the bathrooms and the kitchen and dining verandah area. Muse at the shared wooden table and enjoy breakfast with fellow guests. The space Tuxan offers two traditional Mayan cottages and a Library / Escuelita: #1 (Casa Sombrero) with a double bed and a king size bed that separates into two single beds in addition to the possibility of installing hammocks https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/17516149 and #2 (Casita) with A Double bed with the possibility of installing hammocks. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/17516490 There are two full bathrooms, each with a shower with hot water, one with my grandmother's bath! The building where the library is located can accommodate up to nine hammocks. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/17516831 If you are equipped for camping, we have plenty of room for you with so many trees! The idea of a Bed and Breakfast on Tuxankin Che (pronounced Too-shan-kin she, translation: "Tree Place") seemed perfect for travelers who come to Campeche, drawn to the search for culture and ecology. In the late 1980s, we became the guardians of Tuxan, a 4-hectare fruit orchard around the town of Campeche, Campeche State, Mexico. Since 1982, the city has turned from a lost gem into a rediscovered treasure. In 2000, UNESCO declared a World Heritage Site. Tuxan (pronounced Too-shan) has also evolved, from a simple fruit orchard to a living creative inspiration, an artist's house with a growing library and green palette. It reflects a life in the Mayan World and my love of nature, people, and the arts. The building began in 1990. Stone, wood, and thatch combine with cement, electricity, and plumbing systems to create today's Tuxan is populated by thousands of trees, including more than a dozen fruit varieties such as: Sapote, Cajou Nuts, Mandarine, Orange, Lemon, Avocat, Mango, Banana, Noix de Coco, Almond, Nance, Cannelle, Guanabana, Guayaba and Mamey! Hardwoods include Mahogany, Ciricote, and Cedar. Our gardens offer a choice of flowers, lawns and foliage. Every night and at night a chorus of crickets and frogs could be singed at the dance of a zillion firefly. Today we can teach you how to settle into a hammock. We've acquired a hammock job, and hope to teach the weaving of hammocks too soon. Welcome! Guest access By booking a Cottage / Casita you will have access to a full bathroom with hot water shower, the common verandah dining area, a small "dipping pool", the gardens and the orchard, and, by arrangement, the kitchen facilities. Food and drink in the kitchen is not included although potable water is provided. Long term guests are welcome to make special arrangements with the on site hosts for food preparation and storage. During your stay Between Doña Emma and Doña Nella's family there should always be somebody on site to help with any questions you might have. Doña Nella offers traditional breakfast for those of you who enjoy home cooking, fresh eggs, beans, tortillas, ripe fruit, yoghurt and juice, truly a delicious way to begin the day and fill your belly and smile :) Other things to note Being in the country, expect country sounds and critters. Take common sense precautions such as shaking out your shoes and clothes before putting them on, wearing shoes when walking about, using insect repellent as is your wont. If you have a pet, its good behaviour is your responsibility. Any behaviour that results in damage to people or property is also your responsibility. Pets are not allowed on the beds nor the linens. Wi-Fi reception is spotty on the property. Please take care to deposit waste paper and trash in the receptacles provided and NOT in the toilet, thank you.
