The Doocot is a luxury rural retreat for couples.
The Doocot is a delightful and secluded cottage, set in woodland beside an 18th century Doocot. It sits in the tranquil grounds of our own home, far away at the opposite end of the garden with our woodland on one side and well kept garden on the other. You can relax on the deck, reclining on the patio furniture and look endlessly out over the fields and a golf course watching the local wildlife come and go - red squirrels, woodpeckers and even the odd deer. A beautifully peaceful spot. The Doocot interior is a calming and thoughtful one, decorated in creams and browns throughout with luxury linens and where every little detail has been thought out and provided for. You enter through the conservatory into the kitchen and living area. The cottage is heated with a Stovax wood burning stove and a complimentary basket of logs on arrival. There are radiators to give background heat so the stove is not required unless you choose so. For relaxing nights in then there is a flat screen television, Blue Ray DVD, Freeview, DVD's, Books, Bose iPod dock and games but if you want to venture out then there are plenty pf restaurants nearby and one or two within walking distance. There are quirky artworks and photographs by a local well known photographer hanging on the walls. The kitchen/dining area is well equipped with beech worktops and a dining island in the centre. It is a well appointed kitchen with an electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge with small freezer compartment and a washer/dryer. There are dressing gowns and fluffy towels, a lovely big bath and shower and Highland Soap Company bath and body products. The bedroom is bright and airy with full length windows down one side of the room to maximise the view. There is a wonderful super king size bed, with luxury linens, a dressing table with mirror, a magnifying mirror and a hairdryer. Dogs are very welcome in The Doocot (by arrangement, £30 per dog per stay) and they are provided with a small welcome pack of their own including a towel, blanket, bed, a dog bowl and home made doggy biscuits! There is a gate at the bottom of the drive which can be shut at your discretion making it a fully enclosed garden. We have a dog of our own plus some hens (you're very welcome to the fresh eggs daily) as long as you shut the gate to their run to stop them raiding the vegetable patch - please help yourself to whatever is in season ... The price includes electricity, wifi, sheets, towels and dressing gowns. There is always some tasty baking and home made jam to welcome you (some of our very own homemade liqueur awaits tasting too!), fresh flowers plus some milk in your fridge for a cuppa when you arrive. In the kitchen there is a supply of tea, coffee, sugar, oils, salt and pepper. Loo rolls, cling film, silver foil, firelighters, matches, washing up liquid and cleaning products are provided too. In the heart of Perthshire in the small rural village of Dunning sits The Doocot, a bespoke and individual property which provides luxury accommodation for couples. The setting is idyllic, surrounded by beautiful gardens and woodland, looking over fields, a golf course and up into the Ochil Hills. It is situated minutes from the A9 (Scotland's main artery road) so immediately accessible for Edinburgh, Glasgow, The Highlands and The East Neuk of Fife. The property is designed to help you unwind, relax and enjoy every moment. It's the ideal place to spend a romantic weekend, a short break or ideally take a longer time so you can fully explore the surrounding area and beyond. It's a great place to recharge your batteries so that you can leave feeling relaxed, refreshed and energised. The conservation and historical village of Dunning is in the centre of rural Perthshire. We are proud to be home to the 13th century St Serfs Church with the rare and very impressive 8th century Dupplin Cross. Nearby is some ancient woodland which was once the site of a 1st century roman camp while just outside the village is Maggie Wall's monument, the site of the last witch ever burnt in Scotland in 1657. St Serf is even reputed to have killed a dragon here ... We are just 15 minutes from Perth and the magnificent Scone Palace and about 20 minutes from Innerpeffray Library (Scotland's first free public lending library) and Drummond Castle with its wonderful gardens. Within the village The Kirkstyle Inn (dog friendly) provides delicious bar meals and evening meals in their dining room, while The Dunning Hotel does the same and sometimes has live music. There is also a small grocers and post office in the village and within a few miles is the world renowned Gleneagles Hotel. If you feel like a stroll then try Dunning's attractive and ancient wood offering an easy one kilometre circular walk or the stunning Pitcairn Den with it's bluebell wood and attractive burn, we even have our own tricky little 9 hole golf course. Perthshire is a fantastic county to explore, there is everything from wildlife to adventure. There is fishing, stalking, shooting, water sports, cycling, walking, munro's to climb, golf to play, distilleries to visit, castles to explore and much, much more. The Doocot is the ideal base from which to begin your journey around Perthshire and beyond.
